A little thing called Generating Reviews.

Crothian, what plans do you have for dealing with horrible inaccuracies in reviews?

One of your reviewers finally posted a review for Big Bang: The Mostly Illustrated RPG Guide to Modern Weapons, Special Edition, and there are horrible errors in the review, namely the suggestion that there are no bookmarks in the product and cut'n'paste is disabled. Horrible lies, the book appears to have had both in every edition that's been published. Maybe PDF reviewers need to list the PDF viewer they used, particularly if it happens to NOT be Acrobat, so viewer indescrepancies can be accounted for?

I won't even get into his decision that the D20 Modern authors must feel insulted by the product, or his decision to pass judgment on the book based upon "unwritten rules".

Its also possible the version I have of that file is old and didn't include those things in it which seems to be the case here. I just opened the file and the review is accurate with what I have. So, I apologize, but I can only hand out the version of the PDF I have. Updates do not automatically get to people who are granted review copies through RPGNow like they do with the customers.

Problem here is that I have access to all four versions produced for that particular product, including dozens of copies on old backup CDs. I spent 4 1/2 hours going through all that stuff and they all have bookmarks and they all allow copy and paste.

It does look lik what I have has copy and paste, but it definatly does not have book marks. Would you like me to e-mail you the copy I have? I'm not sure what its going to prove, but I am more then happy to show you what I have. Still, the best thing to do is make a comment in the review section. These are still reviews done by individuals and all I'm serving as is the middle man getting books out to people to review them. The review is their own and the way it has always been handled with inaccuracies or disagreements is in the comment section.

Not going to fight a flame war with D_Sinclar...

I used Acrobat 5.0, and when I pasted into something else, all I got was garbage text and no bookmarks.

Just for your reference, while copying the first paragraph of the book describing the 1.5 version, I get this:

And, so we can all be sure it's not the version of Acrobat, I downloaded 7.0 today to verify:

:HOFRPH WR 6SHFLDO (GLWLRQ 9ROXPH 7KLV

Same thing.

Running Windows XP SP2 on my IBM Thinkpad. I checked another file I reviewed, and copy-paste works just fine from that document.

I can see why you're upset.

"W HYHQ DW" is toally unbalanced, even for an advanced prestige class.

;)

Hey Crothian,

Just to give you a heads up. I stopped doing pdf reviews as I expect one of my adventures will be published via pdf relatively soon. I deleted the last file you sent me. Thanks for the opportunity.
