A Paid Trip to Spellhold [D&D 4e]

Issia said nothing at first, but after a time came to a question.

"You wish me to enter a place which prevents the use of magic? How do I know my particular talents will be of any use?"

"Worry not, several merchants that travel to the near by islands have reported no problems. However, some arcanist aboard said vessels have reported an alteration in their powers, although not a precise description was given, we assume that perhaps their power was nulified somehow." Offers Fremach. "Please do ask as many questions, it is imperative that you count with as much information as you can"

Taran

"Sounds a bit like wild magic to me... who has tried to scry? Only arcanists? Or also priests? Perhaps it really affects only arcane magic."
Taran suggests.

"Perhaps, but we are not sure. That's why we will send you, to give us a good description about such phenomena. Besides, you capabilities as a dragonborn will still be at your side. A human wizard whose magica powers is helpless, while you, you are still a dragon." Smiles Fremach

"It was a prison, so what are the known security of that place?" asks Cliff.

"There are several security devices: At the entrance, the bridge was risen to avoid unwanted intruders or to avoid the escape of prisoners. There is no way to tell what is the state of that bridge. There used to be a room with arcane markings and devices that controlled the headbands that were in the heads of each prisioner. Those headbands nulified the arcane abilities of the dangerous ones and rendered the less powerful into a retarded state of mind. Several degrees of control were possible, although as time has passed I have no other details about that.
It is possible that there are some traps, although it is not stated in the diagrams and the writings about Spellhold. There is one particular deadly trap that detonates when someone wearing a headband goes through the main entrance. But you should not worry about that."

"We had priests to try and scry the area, although there are not many powerful priests. The last one who could perform a full scry of the prison was the late master of the church of Ilmater, who I think you knew. It is strange that such a powerful person was overcome by simple thieves." Fremach sighs. "I know the poison the thieves of the shadows use is very strong, perhaps the old man never stud a chance."

[sblock=Insight DC 10]
Somehow, these Shadowthieves appear to be much more powerful than you thought. Perhaps there is someone helping them?[/sblock]

[sblock=Insight DC 15]
Something tells you that it was a very big coincidence that the priest of Ilmater was slain by the ST when he was the only one able to perform the scrying. [/sblock]

You think there should be a link about the strange object the ST leader used to kill the dwarf and the death of the Priest of Ilmater. Someone gave that man such a powerful artifact, there was no way a simple thief had such powerful arcane object in his power. [/sblock]

"You are speaking about a follower of Ilmater. He has been exposed to many suffering, and that must include poison. And his god ward and heals his followers. I doubt he would have died of poison. I saw no sign who would denote that anyway when I found him dead." tells Cliff.

Chizz listens carefully to the information about traps and control headbands, then returns his attention to the map. Insight: 5 He stops paying attention when the conversation changes to the death of some priest.

"Is that so?"
Asks Fremach, evidently surprised. "Hmm, then it seems that there is something more behind the death of the old priest. For the Five! He could have blasted ME if he wanted to, how the hell did they manage to kill him is a mystery."

After a moment of thoughts, Fremach nods to himself. "I'll try to investigate this matters while you are on your journey. The Sea Carpet, a corsair ship at the service of the city will take you to the island tomorrow, be ready at dock number 4 at dawn. Any other questions that needs clarifications before you go?"

Taran

"I'm ready to go."
Taran says.
