A possibly balanced Thrown Weapon feat?

I like the idea of a Combat God (tm) being able to throw his greatsword (to use an extreme example) to take out a fleeing foe. Sure, it's campy, but it's fun to see. However, all the 'throw anything' style feats also seem way way overpowered, and easily abused. Therefor, I have tried for this feat. It's still in initial stages, so the flavour text is absent, but tell me what you think:

Throw Weapon (Fighter)
Prerequisits: Weapon Focus
Benefit: Choose a weapon for which you already have the feat Weapon Focus. You can now treat that weapon as if it were a thrown weapon with a range increment of 10 feet, at an additional -2 penalty to your attack rolls, including all other modifiers.

What do you think? I don't think it's too powerful--but is it perhaps too weak?

Colour me one of those who would think it way too weak. I don't think the 'Throw Anything' Feat is at all overpowered - you don't often see people bothering with 10ft range increment throwing weapons, and I've never seen anybody take the Feat in all my playing and DMing (the acid test of an 'overpowered' Feat generally being high demand...)

I certainly don't see anyone taking your proposed Feat. In terms of balance, too - remember, once the fighter throws her magical greatsword, she then isn't holding one when the next opponent appears behind her - a built-in disadvantage to the 'Throw Melee Weapon' idea....

I agree; Throw Anything isn't overpowered at all. Most likely you'll receive plenty of penalties to your attack roll anyway because of the 10 ft range.

Now, if you comletely optimise your character for it, it might get a bit silly (a throwing returning greatsword of distance wielded by someone with the far shot feat. 40 ft range, can be thrown each round), but that is a very specific case.

Heck, I don't even think that's very silly at all, at least not in game balance terms. A throwing returning sword of distance is at least a +4 weapon, and you can only attack with it once per round. Compare with the twinked archer who's probably getting 3 or 4 attacks with Rapid Shot, or the barbarian with 26 Str when raging and +15 damage or thereabouts.

Speaking as a dm with a strong suspicious streak concerning pc power levels, Throw Anything isn't overpowered (one of the pcs in my campaign has it).

The pc uses it once every couple of sessions, and usually just to avoid putting her greatsword away and whipping out her bow. She's an archer-focused fighter/psion, and if Throw Anything could be milked for outrageousness she'd have done it by now. She deals lots more damage at a much greater range with her bow.

Wow. That's some pretty emphatic responses there. : )

Actually, when put the way you guys have, I can see that mine might be rather underpowered and Throw Anything perhaps balanced after all.

Thanks all; I shall definitely reconsider this one...
