Their Baby Back Ribs are really good (that song is addictive), but I always feel guilty ordering it because of the price. If I weren't a poor college student, though...

WHAT?? No one told my wife this! She's from Melbourne, and likes it when I make Mac 'n' Cheese with Hot Dog cut up in it.

I'm not Australian but I've been to Australia a couple of times including the outback.

I don't know about the Outback Steakhouse chain but I've been to a few BBQ restaurants in Australia where you cook the steak yourself. One of these near the entrance to the Jenolan Caves in the Blue Mountains was particularly good.

I'm an Australian who lives in the Blue Mountains to the west of Sydney - not far from Jenolan Caves - and I can vouch for the quality of the food at the restaurant. (Incidentally, the Jenolan Caves pretty amazing. I'm sure there's a passage into the Underdark down there somewhere )

Still...I'm surprised that this is a conversation about Australian food and nobody has brought up the subject of Vegemite yet....

so, i looked up "Australian Cuisine" on wikipedia, because i wanted to see what horrors different countries devised as a method of further ruining the tastebuds of the human race.

I want to know who thought a "pie floater" was a good idea. Same goes for a "cheesymite scroll".

On the other hand, i can say that a carpetbag steak sounds like a reasonable dish, and that's coming from a vegan. Speaking of which, is there much in the way of vegetarian restaurants over there?

Agreed. I couldn't help but feel when I was there that it would make an absolutely great venue for a D&D convention. Talk about atmosphere!

Yeah, Chili's invented them under the name of Awesome Blossom. Pretty much every sit-down casual dining place has the same thing going on now.
