A sacred cow to slay: starting at 1st level

On a slightly different note, why not start at level 2?

If you're multiclassing, you get 1 level of each.

Otherwise, you take 2 levels of the same class.

(Why? Only because it bothers me that Bob spent 10 years learning how to swing a sword, then he goes on an adventure and learns to read a spellbook in a week... yes, I know, it's possible that he did train in wizardry but just didn't exhibit any magic during the 1st level, but it's a slightly contrived pill to swallow)

Edit: or 1 class level and 1 racial level

They need to make the game interesting, fun, and dynamic to play from first level on. Around third level versatility in 4E would be the perfect starting point for me. That's when all of the characters get their extra encounter and aren't all 'Okay...Encounter power used....use daily? y/n y is everything dead yet? y/n y good n: at will for the rest of the encounter!!!

no thanks.
