A Simple Errand (DM:renau1g, Judge: covaithe)

Meepo clutched the handle on his shield tightly and, with his other hand, freed his whip. "More information would be nice, Jax," he barked nervously as he rushed forward.

[sblock=Draconic]"Bad guy? Good treasure? A Hat?"[/sblock]

Defiantly he stomped his scaly foot, planting himself five feet from the gateway, attempting to form a barrier between Jax and whatever lurked on the other side of the illusion. "Maraz, keep my shield strong, my weapon ready, and my hide unholeified."

Crag steps past the defiant Meepo and pats him on his head before walking through the gate and through the veil of illusion. When he sees the dwarf's metal guardian, his hand flinches towards his sheathed blade for a second before realizing that it was not yet acting hostile, only protecting its domain like an animal would in the wild. If it were not for this basic knowledge of nature, Crag may very well have started a fight for no reason. Eyeballing the dwarf curiously, the warforged attempted to seem calm and nonthreatening. Looking away from the dwarf and then at the tower behind him, Crag mentally frowned.

Terra, is this the place you want me to be? Give me some kind of sign to guide your servant onto the right path.

Ingot follows behind its fellow warforged. When it steps past the veil and sees the tower revealed, it lets out a hollow-sounding whistle. "Amazing!"

It orients on the dwarf. "Pardon us, please. We are not sure exactly why we were led here ourselves. But it has to do with a certain magic staff."

"Magic staff you say? Interestin'... you got it with ya?" the dwarf asks, his demeanor changing pretty quickly

"Yes, we do. But before we go any further, could you please tell us who you are? And what is going on at this place? We were led here by a vision of sorts, so we're not really sure what we're getting into here..."

Meepo stood his ground as the others passed him, keeping his defenses up while trying not to do anything which would provoke the dwarf. Quickly he was surrounded by his larger friends. Relieved that if a combat were to happen his side acceptably outnumbered the other, he acted on his instincts and shifted forward, bringing his whip back and low to his side. "I, for one," he added after Ingot had finished, "have no idea what I'm doing here. At all. I'm pretty sure we're the good guys, so I have just one question; are you the good guys too?"

The dwarf turns his head quizzically at the kobold's question "Hmmm good guys? Well that depends on your definition of good? We certainly ain't lookin' to hurt nobody, so I guess that's gotta count fer somethin'. We ain't no bleedin' hearts either though." the dwarf says, then turns back to the warforged.

"Hmmm, well my pet ain't made fer yer throats so I guess ya ain't be meanin' us any harm. Led by a vision? Very interesting. Well, me and Lockjaw here are members of the IAC, the Institute for Arcane Cyphers, but don't worry you won't be rememberin' that once you leave. You see there's a strong enchantment on this place and once you leave within a minute of going through the gates, or over the wall, you'll forget faces, names, even what the place looked like or where it was. Don't worry though, it's completely harmless. So, this tower? It's our research center here in Daunton. The igors mostly run the place, they take care of just about everything, we are able to focus on our studies that way. My own interests center around constructs and magical creations. So what exactly is the problem with this staff of yours?" the dwarf says.

Crag wished, at that moment, that he had some kind of telepathy or illusion-type magic to show everyone his Evil Ezren vision. Terra did not seem to have an issue with this place or this dwarf (or the dwarf's creations for that matter), and although the forgetting illusion is in place around this location, he seriously doubted the idea that the magic could trick nature itself, so he trusted the dwarf.

Reaching into his backpack, the warforged gently pulled out the staff of earth and showed it to the dwarf while doing his best to explain his visions to the artificer, hopefully well enough that the dwarf would understand why they ended up at his front door.

"I cannot allow this staff to end up in the wrong hands. This staff, although a great tool, must be destroyed to prevent an end to Daunton as we know it. Can you help us with that?"

"You....you would destroy a magical staff...oh...but that would be terrible... you say that Daunton would be destroyed? A vision? Hmmm.... this is certainly intriguing. I must say, the Igors will need to take you to the headmaster and discuss this with him. I will retrieve them" the dwarf says, he moves towards the door and speaks into a horn-looking device, the construct continues to eye you with unblinking eyes.

A black-cloaked, hunched figure emerges "Pleath follow me, the mather will want to talk to you about the thaff" the "man" says with a heavy lisp. He beckons for you to follow into the tower.
