A Simple Errand (DM:renau1g, Judge: covaithe)

Crag nods to the hunched fellow and places the staff back into his pack. Taking a few steps to follow the smaller man, the warforged waves for the others to follow.

"It looks like we may get some answers to this puzzle after all. Let's go find out what this 'Master' has to say about the staff."

Jax follows Crag toward the 'Master.' As they walk, Jax speaks quietly to the warforged, somewhat echoing the dwarf.

"You would destroy it? But think of all the living mud that came out of it. That must be worth something to someone... Hey, do you think it can do something besides make mud? Can you ask Terra to have the staff spit out rocks - gold rocks?"

Dorn follows warily, clearly nervous to be around so much that he doesn't understand. He can't help but admire the skill of whoever put up the illusion, but his admiration is overshadowed by a sense of foreboding.

Crag does his best to shift his facial features in a way that expresses a frown, but it ends up looking a bit goofy.

"The staff has been twisted and has somehow become a portal to another place. Do you not remember when we were trying to recover this staff that a dragon was trying to claw its way out of it? Were we to allow this staff to exist, who is to say, small one, that another being not of this natural world will not come out of the staff to conquer or destroy our world? Where and when would you get any gold rocks and jewels when the world no longer exists? And no...Terra cannot make the staff give you money," Crag says with a chuckle that echoes inside of his metallic chassis.

Ingot is fascinated by the "Igor", following close behind and peering closely at him. "Sir, I hope this question is not rude, but... you appear to have been constructed. Were you made in a Forge?"

Hearing Crag's discussion with Jax, the warforged turns back. "We should trust Crag's judgement when it comes to the staff," it says. "It has already proved to be quite dangerous, and messy. Don't worry, Jax - we are adventurers! I am sure we will discover gold and treasure one way or another. That's what happens on adventures!"

"Gold and treasure? Most definitely count me in!" Meepo slung his shield over his shoulder and coiled his whip around his waist as he chased the rest of the party.

"You know, I've got a confession to make. I've never even really seen a gold before. I heard they sparkle like the sun. Is that true Ingot?" Meepo scurried around the legs of the giant. "One of these days I'm gonna get so much gold, because I'm a mighty adventurer now, that I'll make a pile so big that it'll look like the sun."

The man turns to Ingot, "Conthructed? Hmm....Yethh, a mather made uth long ago, but not in a forge, too hot. He hath a room here that he made uth, but it gone now. Hey, do any of you need any thuthering? I am really good with a needle now, even thewed thut mythelf when I thplit thometimeth." he says, then you come upon another similarly cloaked man, he has an eerily similar face, patchwork skin, etc., and a few more as they move about, not paying any attention to you. There are many closed doors and can feel arcane energy that is infused in this place. It certainly is some sort of lab or academy or research location for arcanists.

"Ok, the Mather ith in there." he says, pointing to a large oak door in front of you, he pulls out a key ring from his hip, the sheer number on the ring is almost mind-boggling, but your guide doesn't hesitate for a moment as he grabs one of the non-descript keys and unlocks the door, opening it and gesturing you to enter.

"Mather, you have thome guethtth." the man says happily. The person in front of you is quite old, he is studying a large tome, the book larger than Jax or Meepo! He looks up angrily at the disruption, "What is it Igor! I told you not to interrupt, and how many times have I told you I'm not your master!" the wizard says, but his voice eases at the sight of the adventurers. He lowers his feet to the floor, closes the book and places it on a desk near him. "Greetings, I am one of the members of this fine establishment. I can presume that since you are standing here, Belor deemed you worthy for entrance so I shall also presume you have no hostile intentions as the Igors led you to me. What can I do for you?" the wizard asks, his head cocked as he studies you.

[sblock=ooc] Arcana check to see if I know what a Balor is (1d20+3=6). And that's a no. [/sblock]

As soon as Meepo saw the floaty-man, he poked Jax and said softly,
[sblock=draconic]"That hat would be perfect!"[/sblock]
Then he turned his attention to the man. With a slight bow, and a respectful movement of his tail. "Greetings, fellow master, I am Meepo the Brave, son of meepo-the-not-as-brave-as-meepo-the-brave. Do not be fooled by my arms and armorment, we have come in peace. But, seeing how I really don't know what we're doing, or why I'm here, I'll defer the anwer to your question to Crag over there. However, I do have one question for you," Meepo lowered his voice dramatically, "is it really possible to make a pile of gold so big that it looks like the sun."

"A pile of gold so big it looks like the sun? Perhaps... you would certainly need a large amount of coins...likely bigger than any dragon's hoard that I've heard of, but certainly not inconceivable. the wizard replies

[sblock=duhexenhase]
Ha! Belor was actually the name of the dwarf...maybe they do have some capable of summoning a balor...hmmm that's what level 29 daily spell...well maybe not [/sblock]

[sblock=r1]Just because I know you're not throwing a Balor at us doesn't mean Meepo didn't know that. Hell, with a roll that low, he might someday even think that a Balor is just a type of dwarf that guards doors.[/sblock]
Meepo laughed at the response and dropped his guard. "Hm, then maybe this dragon summoning staff thing will be of good use. Do we really want to destroy it, guys?"
