A Simple Errand (DM:renau1g, Judge: covaithe)

"Crag is right," Ingot agrees. "Mister Master, rest assured I am quite adept at repairing injury and will do my utmost to keep you in good shape. Even if you should suffer dragon-related damage."

"And even if there is a dragon, that just means I can start collecting my sungold! I fear, though, that everything will be fine and we'll get through this without incident. If you know anything about Kobolds, and I'm guessing one of these books have to talk about us, I mean you do have a lot of books, or probably do because you seem very booklearning smart, you know it would be good to have you around, because I'd have someone to tell stories with and about -- I know! You could write the tale of Meepo the Brave and his quest for the sungold. You're very much welcome to to join me on my newfound quest." Meepo smiled and extended his hand for a handshake. Then he added, "There is one condition, however. I must be provided with a jaunty hat."

Ok I'll move this along hopefully tonight. Sorry for the slowness the last couple weeks. Tax season is just wrapping up and it's crazy...[/sblock]

Sorry guys, with enworld being down for the last few hours I wasn't able to update and now I head to bed. On the plus side I have now reviewed all the PC's in my queue :) [/sblock]

It takes a few hours for the wizard, who asks you to call him Veneficus, to gather his belongings and the arcane reagents necessary for the ritual. You set out on the path to Daunton's interior. The route is not unlike the one you took to get the staff, and Veneficus' directions only leave you about a half-days hard march to the old laboratory ruins you were at.

At the far end of the clearing, crumbling walls front a cliff face. Strange symbols are carved into the weathered gray stone of the ruins. Beyond is a recently excavated cave mouth, its newly cleared passage stabilized by wooden scaffolding.

In front of the cave mouth sits a motley group of five humans eating around a fire. Most wear simple leather jerkins and carry maces, but one large lout is clad in bear furs and hefts a greataxe over his shoulder. He bullies the others aside to grab chunks of venison.

Above the humans, a cloak-garbed dwarf perches atop a ruined wall, watching the clearing with a loaded crossbow at his side. His gray clothing and skin almost blend into the crumbling stonework.

"Usurpers! Stealing our knowledge? We must slay them" the wizard says with passion.

BTW I'm assuming Crag is carrying the staff? If not, let me know.[/sblock]

Jax, not at all in the mood for a fight after the march, tries his hand at calming the wizard.

"No, that's not it! We don't need to slay them. In fact, we want to destroy knowledge! So they can't usurp anything." He looks to Crag for support.

ooc: Sorry for the slow posting myself. Finals week at school and all that.
edit: slight edit. I was thinking one of the cave dwellers was a wizard and yelling at us. Fixed.

Crag unsheathes his sword in the case that the cave dwellers become hostile, but he holds it loosely at his side in an nonthreatening manner.

"There is no need for us to fight if we do not have to. We are simply here to perform a ritual that will not harm any of you. Please allow us to pass."

Ingot has been quiet during the journey. Thinking about their destination, ruins associated with one of the Old Gods, has disturbed its peace of mind in a way it cannot describe.

"Veneficus, these hardly look like scholars," it responds when the wizard spots the group. "I doubt they are here to steal knowledge. However they look pretty rough, and if they are Hekates worshippers, they could be quite dangerous. I think we should parley with them but be on our guard. Um, I am not the best at speaking to others..."

ooc: Not sure who the best talker in the group would be... do we have one? Meepo or Dorn perhaps? Either one of them would be a very interesting spokesman at least. :)
