A Teacher for Laynie: Mystery at the Academy (Part 2)

"Well, if I'm risking that already, I think I deserve a little bit more information about the Dark Lord at least."

"Vanitri, I'm sorry. That information is so restricted that they can't even put it in the library."

*There's a knock on the door.*

"Hold on, I'll go tell them to leave."

*Rayne heads to the door, and opens it, and Elektra walks into the room.*

"Vanitri, what can of trouble are you getting into this time?" she smiles at him slightly.

"Short of fraternizing with the administration, nothing more than usual," he jokes, raising a cup of tea to take a sip.

*Rayne's desk holds papers from the class she is teaching, which she is in the process of grading.*

"Laynie said you were talking about...things."

"Vanitri told me a lot. Did you know about his vision for the third test?"

*Elektra looks at Vanitri in disapproval.*

"Third test? Oh, you mean how he saw the Magequeen's daughter in the past?"

"No, I mean the future one."

"I can't say I recall..."

"Gee, thanks," Lex sighs, "I guess he told you anyway."

"Yes, and I can't believe that even a gifted student like you understands the significance," Rayne raises an eyebrow.

"I don't," Elektra admits, "But I could tell that letting the staff know would lead to him being restrained and mindraped for any possible clue."

*Rayne sighs, a saddened look on her face.*

"Elektra, I thought you knew me better...True, most of the staff would have done that, but I can't accept that happening to one of my students except as a last resort."

"And how close are you to a last resort after Dolder Vreemont?" Lex raises an eyebrow.

*Rayne looks incredibly dejected:*

"Point taken," she sighs.

"She also doesn't like my theory on the Dark Lord being Dolder, which would fit the profile, even the one she refused to acknowledge. Besides, I'd think they'd at least show a bit of pause at someone the Cat said smelled familiar. There's likely more to me than you think, if the first vision has any true significance."

"It can't be Dolder. He's almost as incompetent as they come here. We can probably rule out the weak casters, as they'd never have outwitted the entire Academy for so long."

"I agree," Rayne nods, "And Vanitri, you know the 'there's more to me' argument wouldn't help your case with most of the faculty. That could be spun the wrong way to imply the Dark Lord is actually you, you know? After all, the message about the Heir appeared when you did, and all those scholarship things...Obviously it's not, but I'm just saying that you should be careful with using that argument."

"Well, if that last vision means something, I'm fairly sure the first one does."

Vanitri will describe the first vision
