A Teacher for Laynie: Mystery at the Academy (Part 2)

*Rayne nods.*

"Of course I will. I'm hurt that you would think otherwise, Vanitri--I care about you, and about all my students. I've significantly risked my position and my legacy here already, and I will always do so to protect my students. Just know that if you run then, you will look even more guilty and likely be hunted, I am afraid..."

"Well, letting us know a bit more about the Dark Lord would help. I mean, for all I know, it could be anyone, even Laynie."

"I can't tell you that--for what I'm withholding from them, I could be disciplined and dishonoured, but telling you forbidden secrets would have me stripped of my job and my degree, and then I wouldn't be able to protect anyone..." Rayne says sadly, "There have been many Dark Lords in the history of Medibaria, as I'm sure you know. Why, you might have known that one of the school's founders was called that once?" Rayne adds absently.

*Rayne nods slightly.*

"I'm sorry I couldn't be more useful. Hopefully this problem will either resolve itself or be resolved shortly. If you ever need to talk to me again or you have a vision or something, feel free to knock on my door at any time, no matter if it is late--I'm practising elven meditation rituals anyway, so it'll be good for me to get less sleep. Good luck on your first exams, Vanitri!"

*As Vanitri and Lex head out, Lex shakes her head.*

"You should have gotten me first. Headmistress Liore is one of my favourite people on the faculty, but she still has responsibilities to uphold--in some ways it was as much to protect her from harming herself through keeping the secret as anything that I wanted to keep her in the dark about that."

"Well, it started out with a fairly simple sharing of information, though she didn't tell me much I didn't already know. Apparently though they've known about Dolder missing since last night, which is odd, since I didn't other than by noticing that he didn't stop by. Though by her comment about them not being able to put any information on the Dark Lord in the library does give me some pause as to where the information is, as it's obviously out there."

"Yes, and I know where it is for sure. The secret library. Most likely Sice's secret library, if I figured out the clue she tried to give us at the end there."

Vanitri nods, "That's what I was picking up as well. Looks like we'll be trying to sneak in there."

"Oh, and sorry to tell Laynie where you secret candy stash was."
