A Teacher for Laynie: Mystery at the Academy (Part 2)

"Hmm, that's not how I heard it happening. That's interesting to me in particular as a half-elf, and it sounds very romantic, but I don't think it necessarily is related to this...still, I wonder what Omega...oh, it doesn't matter."

Vanitri's eyes arch, "What Omega what? And besides, it's much less embarasing to hear the freefolk took her than what likely happened afterwards, and likely more believable to the people of Medibaria."

"Oh, Omega modified that device off an ancient prototype he excavated, that's all," Rayne says, "As to the story, I can see why they prefer their version of it. Better for the Highborne of Medibaria to have her die a martyr than to admit she eloped with an elf and a Freefolk."

"People seeking retribution, creating prejudice and mistrust, and all sorts of things. Don't worry, it's not too different than many other places."

"I know all too well...in many places, half-elves face the same. I'm lucky to have found people here who were willing to look past that. You know I'm the first non-human Housemaster or Housemistress in the Academy's history, I guess?"

*Rayne blushes.*

"Ah, yes. Well, I'm not going to tell anyone about this unless and until they wind up on the verge of closing the school. Hopefully it will stop by then, though I fear what that might mean. I think I need to meditate on what I've learned. And I am truly and deeply sorry that I can't be of more help," she sighs.

"Well, you owe it to me to let me know before you tell them at least. I don't think I want to be around then."
