A Teacher for Laynie: Mystery at the Academy (Part 2)

"No, nothing like that. Well at least, returning Medibaria to her glory is a worthy goal, and one with which I hope you could agree as well. It would only make life better for all the people here. However, I wouldn't kill for that..."

"Vanitri, they took my soul. I need this to live. To breathe. To let Laynie have a long and healthy life and save her from whatever is decaying her from within. I'm sure nobody would have minded if I killed nonsentient animals to make it--as humans we eat them all the time to live. It is the way of the world. Unfortunately, in order to keep someone from doing something diabolical with the stone after the pressure was on, I was forced to kill people to save more lives, and for that I shall be forever sorrowful. Don't blame your own investigations--Kharisa figured it out as well. She always was a bright girl, Kharisa. Exceptionally gifted."

"No! She was like that when I found her--I think she must have been involved in some terrible magical accident. I'm trying to help her survive. Do you want Laynie to die?"

"By sacrificing the lives of others against their will? Doesn't seem right. Is she even aware of any of this?"

"No, she isn't. I've spared her the details so that she will not have to live with what happened. Vanitri, it sounds like you want to let Laynie die. I am saddened by this. At least if you won't help me, will you not try to stop me? Or am I going to have to knock you out too?"

"Why would I want to let you continue? You intend on sacrificing another life. Regret doesn't make it right. I'm all for purifying Laynie's soul, but even she'd balk at the expense of others."

"But, if you truely care about her, you'd let her choose, instead of justifying your homicidal rampage with her best interests in heart, or you'd sacrifice yourself."

"One more life must be sacrificed to save us all from the consequences should this fall into the wrong hands. If it had been up to me, only animals and the like would have died--it was only the danger of the magic being used for evil that required me to finish sooner. Just imagine what this could do if it fell into the wrong hands. Surely you do not want that, right?"

"What have you done so far with it? I only see killing, and can only take your word at such things. If you are truely the Heir, then pass your good will onto your offspring, Laynie, and let her decide her own distiny, rather than you doing it for her."
