A Teacher for Laynie: Mystery at the Academy (Part 2)

"She lost her parents, and now you? She's going to be terribly sad, Vanitri. She needs you now. And if she had to watch you go, she would be scared and horrified...Are you sure it's a good idea to have her see this?"

"I'm not sure this is a good idea period, and I have trouble believing you though all of this, and but I think Laynie should know what I'm willing to do for her. You speak of Laynie yet trivialize all the other lives you've taken. I certaintly can't choose Lex, and she'd kill me if I chose Truman, and Kharisa certaintly doesn't deserve to die by my wish, so that leaves me, the only one who's got the freedom to make a choice. Live free and die free, seems fitting for a 'folk."

*Truman, who is still conscious, though staggered, grins and says:*

"No, why not choose me? If that's what you want, then do it. Don't kill Vanitri or Elektra. Let it be over with."

"If that is your wish...you are on the brink anyway I will keep it small and painless" she shoots a small red beam at Truman, but instead of affecting him, it hits off his eyepatch and rebounds towards Elayna.

"Ha, psych! I said I was out of deus ex machinas, but not yet. You see, thanks to my mother's love, any spell that would kill me rebounds on the caster."

"Wow, that is a deus ex machina."

"No, it's just an unusal plot element of which you were not aware. A deus ex machina is when someone else comes out of the blue and saves the day. You should know that. Good work stalling Vanitri," Rayne heads down the hall, the other Elektra guiding the way.

"Rayne."

"Elayna."

"Stuck-up whore."

"Racist bitch."

"Vanitri, it's not safe here--run!" they both shout at once.

Vanitri runs over to Lex (who's hopefully reverted) and grabs her, "Come on, let's move." he says to Truman.

"Laynie, if you can hear me, wake up!"

(OOC: That was not two voices from one body, just so you know--that was Rayne and Elayna both at the same time telling him to get away ;))

*Laynie does not respond. Although the second Lex with Rayne seems fine, the other Lex is still unconscious and a troglodyte. Truman is staggered and can only move at half-speed.*

"You're lucky I've already used so much power today. You were never a match for me, Rayne. You aren't hurting anyone."

"You're looking younger, Elayna. Unlike you, I've grown more powerful with age," Rayne replies.

(OOC: Vanitri can get out pretty easily himself. He could also try to carry the unconscious Elektra, though as a troglodyte, she is pretty heavy. Still, he won't go any more slowly than the staggered Truman)

"Rayne, be careful of Laynie, ok?" Vanitri says.

"Lex, can you help me with yourself?" Vanitri says as he grabs what he can of the Trog and moves it away.

"Vanitri, if the only way to kill one is to kill both, I may have no other choice."

"You're despicable, do you know that Rayne? I can't believe I was your friend, even though you were a half elf. A little girl, you heartless bitch!"

"You're one to talk. What have you done Elayna? Look at all this! Have you no compassion? No soul?"

"I'll try," Lex nods, grabbing one end as Truman staggers towards them, "Wait, let me help Truman first."

*She feeds Truman a weak healing potion, but it's enough to get him on his feet.*

"Now let's get me out of here!"

*The battle between Rayne and Elayna rages on in the background. Rayne seems to have the advantage, launching attack after attack. Though Elayna stops them, she is clearly on the defensive for the moment.*

"You are better. If I had my nexus, this would be going differently," Elayna comments as Rayne throws a roiling mass of liquid flame, "Watch it! If you set off the stone, you could kill everyone in the Academy! You need to be careful, you ignorant baboon."

"Compared to the elves, I'd say humans are the hairy baboons. Besides, you aren't going to fool me that easily."

"No, I'm serious here. I don't want any more people to die! I didn't want any people to die!"

*Vanitri, Truman, and Lex start to drag the other Elektra off the tunnel.*

"Vanitri? If crazy bitch here decides to blow up the Academy, you need to get everyone to safety. Can you pick up Kharisa on the way back in the second room on the right? Then alert someone with authority to evacuate everyone."

"Sure. Can't you merge with yourself so you can move faster?"

"And I'm not sure I should leave Laynie. If that stone will kill everyone if it's set off, maybe someone should grab it so it's not set off when the fight."

OOC: how big is the stone?

(OOC: It's about as big as a person, glowing, coalescing with blood-red energies, and generally looking like messing around with it without great care is a dangerous proposition)

"I intend to insure that doesn't happen if I can. My former 'friend' knows that, and so she can keep me on the defensive and countering her spells by targeting close to the stone. Moving it isn't safe, either."

"Good idea, Vanitri! Unless she's really been hit hard, I should be fine," Elektra merges with herself, combining into a form that is her normal shape. Unfortunately, the combined form is also unconscious. However, it is easy enough for Vanitri to carry on his own over his shoulder.

*Meanwhile, Rayne shoots out of a beam of energy, and Elayna dodges, as it whirs past and slams into the wall behind, blowing a hole into the next chamber but fortunately leaving the circular room intact.*

"Great thinking bimbo! The Demesnes of Enigmas is full of dangerous things--who knows what could have been in there?"

*As if to answer her question, a pair of cadaverous creatures emerge from the new hole, with strange tubes and equipment attached to them, helping keep together their stitched flesh as they shamble forward menacingly, their eyes gleaming with destructive intent. One of them knocks Rayne upside the head from behind, catching her by surprise, and she hits the ground hard.*

"Rayne! Oh damn it all--Vanitri, I changed my mind. Now we need to stop these two things from gaining access to the upper halls. Drop Lex there and come help me. Truman, you free Kharisa. She can help us too. Okay?"

"Here, take Lex," he says to Truman. Drawing his blades again, he heads towards the one by Rayne, slicing it if he can.
