A Teacher for Laynie: Mystery at the Academy (Part 2)

[Rystil Arden]

*Vanitri grabs and quaffs the potion without a problem, as he has a longer reach in this form.*

*The berserk stitched creature slams at Vanitri twice, but it manages to blunder both of the attacks this time.*

"Here, I can slow it like Truman did," Elayna offers, shooting a minor Ray of Frost at it, which indeed slows it down, only able to attack half as quickly as before due to the cold.

(OOC: Vanitri recovers 13 HP and is up to 14)

 

[Bront]

Vanitri will fight defensively again, slamming the creature twice.

 

[Rystil Arden]

*Vanitri slams into the creature defensively, nearly ripping apart its body, but not managing to hit quite hard enough to prevent its fist from slamming into his chest and cracking a rib. Nonetheless, he still stands, panting raggedly.*

"Just one more! Go all out!" Elayna encourages.

Vanitri takes a chance and swings hard.

*With a snapping of sinew and stitching and a sighing groan, the creature collapses, and Elayna shoots another ray to collect the soul.*

"It is done," she says quietly, "The school is safe thanks to you. You'll be a hero, I imagine. You don't need to tell them I helped you...just let me help save Laynie and I'll leave here--you can tell them that you beat the 'evil Dark Lord' too if you like...I don't mind," she moves over to Rayne and checks to make sure she's okay.

"She's stabilised, but she needs to rest if she's going to recover" she pronounces, taking her cloak from before and putting it gently over Rayne like a blanket.

 

[Bront]

"Got another potion? I don't feel too good."

 

[Rystil Arden]

"I didn't see another on her," Elayna admits, "But I guess it is over..."

*The Philosopher's Stone has ceased shifting and squirming and finally coalesces and shrinks as the energy solidifies and condenses into a beautiful ruby-red gem, which Elayna takes in her hand.*

"This is it, Laynie, little hope of Medibaria...And if I am your mother somehow, know that you've made me very proud. I know at times I've come to resent being stuck in your head, but I love you Laynie. Be safe," Elayna leans down as if to hug Laynie, which looks kind of weird because Laynie mimics her motions, "I'm too ephemeral to give you a physical hug," a single tear falls from Elayna's eye, "Vanitri, Laynie. Goodbye."

*There is a bright blinding flash of red light, and when Vanitri can see again, Elayna Valsice is gone, and Laynie has fallen over the ground backwards, peacefully asleep.*

(OOC: Hmmm...apparently those two stitch guys were supposed to be worth a total of 3200 XP to Vanitri and the six snakes another 1800 before taking into account any possible XP from the rest of that giant encounter setpiece, though of course I can't award XP until you're approved. Normally I wouldn't give so much at once, but KO2 said I should always give a minimum of the encounter's XP as per the DMG chart)

 

[Bront]

"Take care Elayna. But know that if I find what has been done here has unleased a great evil on the world, I will be seeing you again."

Vanitri scoops up Rayne and Laynie and heads back, knowing he may need the attentions of a healer soon himself.
