A Teacher for Laynie: Mystery at the Academy (Part 2)

"The killing wasn't done with the Philosopher's Stone. It was done for it. And what is this business about calling her my 'offspring' ? Do you know something I don't because as far as I know, I don't have a daughter, and that seems like something a woman would recall."

"Perhaps I do... I mean, think about it. Why would you feel so protective of her when you're willing to sacrifice most everyone else? Her name's Laynie, and she shows a gift for magic much like you might have at her age. So, either you're her offspring, or you're actualy her, some how magicly split or turned back in age."

"Of course, that would mean that her condition would be your fault."

"I'm protective of you too, aren't I? Does that mean you're my son," Elayna asks, "And even if your wild theories were true, then would it not be even moreso my duty to ensure that her condition was recovered, no matter what it costs me?"

"Well, then give of yourself. No one else needs die, I can work to prevent this from falling into evil hands, and Laynie can return to have a normal childhood, and become the new heir."

OOC: has Vanitri gotten any sense that she's been lying through any of this?

"That wouldn't do anything. I told you--I don't have a soul. Destroying myself will only ensure that Laynie will die. As it is, I will be using the stone to help Laynie first. She is the future of Medibaria--she deserves the best. Will you let me save Laynie? If not, I have to prevent you from stopping me. If this is the case, I will try to be gentle. As Laynie would say 'You're a nice man, Mister Vanitri'. I don't want to hurt you. Now, please stand aside."

(OOC: Nope)

"It has to be someone who is alive. Right now I don't have much time, so it looks like my choices are you, Lex, Truman, or Kharisa Valpyren. Given that choice, I would have to pick Truman with no small deal of regret. If you can deliver a reasonable way to find another choice before someone comes and steals the power gathered here for evil, I'm willing to listen."

"It isn't your fault, Vanitri. She was like this before you even found her. If anything, you were crucial in saving her life. Are you really sure about this? You're a good person--I don't want you to have to die."
