A Teacher for Laynie: Mystery at the Academy (Part 2)

"Hrrm...hmm...duly noted."

*The rest of the dinner mostly involves small talk and good food, including a delicious dessert dish with cake and ice cream. Eventually, as the dinner winds down, the Headmaster looks around before saying.*

"Hrrm...need to get back to my work. End now, hmm?"

*The Housemasters nod in agreement, and they all filter out. As they are both heading back in the same direction, Rayne walks with Vanitri.*

"Vanitri?...Just one thing--if you knew about that all along...why did you wait so long, until after so many people had already been taken?" Rayne asks quietly.

"I didn't know where to go Rayne, nor what to do. In a way, I feel responsable for everyone's disapearance. I mean Dolder... and Misha... and everyone..." Vanitri sighs.

"How could it be your fault, Vanitri? You're not the one who brought the Dark Lord back to the Academy--she was going to return no matter what you did, right?"

Vanitri sighs and nods, "I guess you're right. Still, if I'd figured it out sooner..."

"Was it talking with me that helped you figure it out? If you had confided in me sooner, I could have helped you, Vanitri...I'm sorry that I couldn't be of more help."

"Well, there was a point that I thought it might have been you... though I didn't want to believe it. It did spur me to act faster though, which is why the disapearances picked up."

"You're one of two students who was around the last time the Dark Lord made an apperance, and has some royal blood in them. You and Kharisa."

"And if it was you, then some of what you said to me could have been to keep me quiet."

"I am glad it wasn't you though."

"I see...I had hoped we were friends, though, despite the tension between a Housemistress and her students...Well, the real answer is that it was Elayna Valsice. She was a graduate student back when Kharisa came in."

"I think that with the tension of everything going on, it was hard to trust anyone," Vanitri says. "I do consider us friends though, and I'm certaintly glad you weren't harmed too badly in the fight."
