A "What if you're stuck with Golden Wyvern?" thread

To do my part in thread re-railment, here are my thoughts.

If you are trying to have the character, who follows multiple 'traditions,' strike the flavor, but still for some reason still says the names of his powers, perhaps this is how he might do it:

"Fear not of friendly fire, for even my most explosive and flashy spells fly with the agility of a golden wyvern."

"Just as a fire that you cannot see provides warmth and light, so do I wield in my staff a hidden flame which will burn and blind any who cross my path."

"Powerful protection lies in this rune, an iron sigil, which will ward you from sickness."

"I find that spying is immoral. Those who see long distances with a serpent eye are only looking to do evil."

"The perils of acid and cold are great. The emerald frost that grows on the wands of these wizards is something of dangerous beauty."

I think that's the point Whizbang was trying to make... Despite having spells named after them, the actual wizards the spells are named after were never really detailed in most campaigns.

Well, it's readily apparent that Leomund was far too concerned with portable tract housing, and that's way more than I ever wanted to know about any Greyhawk wizard.

This ties nicely into the "shouldn't 9th level wizards be rich" thread, though.

Really? Can you find me Tenser or Bigby in Eberron or the Forgotten Realms?
Only because I'm being a wiseass, not because I'm trying to argue with anyone:

Eberron Campaign Setting, page 8: "If it exists in D&D, it has a place in Eberron." Since the Tenser and Bigby spells are part of D&D and therefore have a place in Eberron, Tenser and Bigby are explicitly mentioned by name in the spellbooks of many Eberron wizards.

Forgotten Realms Adventures, page 61: "[Khelben] Blackstaff has apparently met the great Bigby at some time in the past..." Granted, that meeting may or may not have taken place in the Realms themselves; nevertheless, an archmage from the Realms has apparently met Bigby in person.

(It's sad that I know these things well enough to find page numbers references in under 3 minutes.)

Editted to append appropriate smiley: :)
