We heard not that long ago that Dragon Tail Cut was nixed after many people whined and moaned about it.

It is entirely possible that they have since gone back to revise many or all of the names like this for the PHB, but since Races and Classes had already gone to press, the names still are in that book.

I know, that kind of rational thought isn't as much fun as teeth-gnashing.

I'm pretty sure Dragon Tail Cut was intended to be nixed, so Wizards could say that they are listening to the complaints.

Geoff.

<sarcasm>Yeah, that's sooo wonderful. It emulates iconic barbarians like Conan perfectly.</sarcasm>

I'm starting to become more and more disenchanted with 4e. Perhaps they were right in trying to keep all of this a secret. :\

Because that was what they wanted, an iconic Conan style barbarian? Golly that hasn't been beaten to death.

I think the idea of a barbarian who tears stuff apart bare handed is neat.

If Wizards had changed the names (which would have been a significant effort), wouldn't we have already heard about it?

So in the absence of some announcement like that, wouldn't the most logical -- nay, rational -- conclusion also be the simplest: to assume that Wizards hasn't changed the names?

But what if there's a counterpart ability for lazy, fat, immobile barbarians called "Slothful Panther Strike" that they use when someone gets in range (and they actually decide to expend the effort) to bite them wherever happens to be close to the barbarian's mouth?

I never thought of that, sorry. :D

It's back to the drawing board I guess.

Why do you think we would have heard about it? Last I checked, Wizards has not been telling us anything about changes they have made during playtesting. The Dragon Tail Cut is a single exception.

As for it being significant effort, it depends on how many of these there might be to change and if they decide to make the simple change from Lightning Panther Strike to Panther Strike, or Lightning Strike, or if they come up with something entirely different. Once they know what they are changing it to, it can be done very simply with a Find-Replace search of the manuscript, which is still in editing.

Isn't that the whole point of having character classes- easily recognizable, iconic character types? Why stop with piranha barbarians? Fighters with swords are so passe. In 4e, fighters will all have katanas. Katanas that shoot laser beams. Pew pew pew!

I am starting to wonder if they're planning on making money with their Digital Initiative thing by selling a feature that lets people to do global find-and-replaces on their rulebooks.
