(Adventure) A Tidy Profit... [Judge: Uriel]

Atella moves into the concealment of darkness and readies his bow.

He whispers to Jo "Let's let them pass and see what happens." Atella looks around with his low-light vision for something to hide behind. Crates, barrels or piers would do nicely. Or if there are other piers branching off this one they could move there as well. Or they could slip onto another boat. Or they could climb down the piers and underneath the docks, staying out of sight. Or they could slip quietly into the water, holding onto the piers. [Without a further description of the docks, I can't state an action, but one of these should be possible, no?]

Atella peers into the darkness, looking and listening carefully.

OOC: Not sure if Zhangsun is with us or not.

[OOC-The three guys are on the dock, and Gurian and I are still on the boat, right? Is the end of the pier to our 'left', or fore of the boat?]

D'Artagnon forgets the lock, hunches down and moves to the dockside of the boat, next to the gangway...

[PS-Silentspace- you're right, no prob]

Zhang gets behind some cover. He readies his crossbow. Glancing into the cold dark water he think, "No way am I getting in there." Zhang pokes his head out and scans the area, looking for any movement with his low-light vision might pick up.

OOC: You want it, you got it...

The pier is a long and narrow stone jetty jutting out about a hundred and twenty feet from the shore. The jetty itself has been kept fairly tidy... Only a few coils of heavy rope and several mooring posts offer any cover. At the end of the pier, iron ladder rungs lead down into the water.

The small fishing boat is tied off at the very end of the pier, with it's port side to the dock and its prow pointing toward shore. Two larger merchant caravels are moored closer in toward shore, one on either side of the pier.

Only Atella saw the lantern flash and the shadowy movements. Even though he's given a warning, by the time everyone else turns to look, nothing unusual can be seen midst the evening gloom of the dockside street and alleys.

Perhaps he only imagined it? Rogues do have a tendency to be paranoidally jumpy at times...

OOC: A simple map depicting the dockside, the jetty, the ships and the alleyway. Atella saw the lantern light at the asterisk. You are all standing on or near the small boat at the end of the jetty.

... and don't forget an eagle overhead! Haisi gets +14 to Spot; unfortunately he can't communicate to us the detail I'd like on this. ;)

OOC: It also doesn't mean the he knows what to look for, or that he's supposed to be looking at all. Not to mention, hawks only get that +8 bonus during the day... Right now, Haisi's spot is only +6.

In that case, Zhang would have stayed on the boat where his small size might afford better protection. He whispers, "Are you sure? I don't see anything." He pauses then continues, "Do you think they are waiting for us to leave?"

OOC: What's our visibility? It's dark with a few lanterns on the dock, right? With pools of shadow in between, I think you mentioned. Is it possible to see into the gaps between the lanterns with low-light vision? Can Atella see the entire dock, in other words?

What about moonlight? That would enable those with low-light vision to see as well as in daylight...

D'Artagnan and Gurian are both human, right? So they're carrying torches or lanterns to see?

[OOC:Actually, no lanterns/torches...I was relying on ambient light to scuttle the boat for entry....]

D'Artagnon remains hunched at the side of the boat, looking up the dock, trying to determine what is going on....
