Lilli replies, "Well, there is nothing particular I want from these places that I'm not already carrying, but I was wondering if there are signs of what may have happened to people that I care about or if anything looks out of place in those buildings that I'm familiar with. I don't anticipate spending much time and they are stone's-throw away."
 

Raiyek nods twice, looking Lilli in the eye. "I wondered if it was the people you wanted to check on, not the places." He solemnly advises, "If what we have seen so far is any indication, they have probably packed and left with everyone else. I understand the desire to check regardless."
 

Mikara reshoulders her bow and heads for the door.

The bakery it is then.

As ridiculous as it seems, Mikara finds it hard not to agree that if she were in an abandoned Si Falingalen, she too would want to check in on her family and friends regardless of the probability that they would not be there.

The group wanders back to the entrance of the IAC, still looking mindfully about the empty building. It must have been quite the place in its time, with alchemists and tinkerers rubbing elbows, discussing their research and furthering the fields of study. Now, like much of Daunton, it is another empty building. The group pauses at the front door, gathering up before leaving. As the first members of the group, Raiyek in lead, step forth from the building, a deep chuckling laugh makes them pause.

Like a dark moon, a large object floats overhead. At first it looks like a large ball or sphere about six feet across. The large orb moves about thirty feet out from the group before rotating and everyone sees the tentacle eye stalks and large central eye of a beholder! It's large mouth, full of razor sharp teeth grins at the adventures.

"The lady said someone was interfering on the island. How foolish of you,"
the beholder grumbles, and then, as if stating a fact, "Now, I'm afraid, I'll have to kill you!"

The beholder pauses a moment, seeing the purple runes on the IAC's door and the four gargoyles, and chuckles to itself, "Well, what do we have here? This won't do, this won't do at all!"

A beam of white light flashes forward from its central eye, and the runes are dispelled. No longer trapped, the gargoyles heads snap around and angry roars emit from their stony throats. They jump down from the wall, amid the adventurers, claws bared.

GM: Adventurers! (everybody loves this part) Please roll for initiative!

If you beat a 29, please feel free to take your first turn. Ouch, it looks like he was ready for you.

Of note, the gargoyles will not be able to act the first turn but can take OA.

Lerrick looks both ways and then behind her. In
this dire situation she feels a strange calm. Her
eyes begin to flicker a silver hue as well as the
strange mark on her forehead. She then moves
to a spot, then directs her full attention on the
beholder, ignoring the gargoyles for now.
 

Mikara spins around, hands going for the fletchings at her back at a speed nearly equal to that of the hideous creature.
