[Adventure!] Daunton's Dead Past DM: FourMonos. Judge: Peer Committee

Vermitrax remains pensive for a few minutes. Then finally speaks up. "It is curious you mention mind control. Curious indeed. A few years back, I happened to be at the guard post with a lot of free time in my hands, but enough details on that; the fact is I overheard the guards speaking of a group of adventurers that discovered an Aboleth living in the sewers of Dauton. For what I heard, this aberration twisted the minds of several townsfolk, even forcing one of them to murder a political figure. The guards mention that the creature was really big, and that it escaped as the adventurers exposed its plans to 'dominate Daunton'. For what its worth, the aboleth might still be there, and might have een involved in this "Change" the Igors mention. Curious that the scrying didn't reveal anything related to it, but then again, Aboleths are adept practitioners of the arcane..."

"I think that take-away lesson from this is that it wasn't instanteneous. We might find more details in the city hall or at the guards headquarters where any unrest would be recorded. Maybe we can piece together what happened when before the final exodus."

Lilli glances over at Lerrick, "Funny how one's past catches up with one now and again, isn't it?"

Yes Lilli, so true indeed. In an instant her mind wanders from memory to memory then settles on a flashback her father, a proud nobel of Daunton who had access to many places. She wonders if he was able to ever visit here. Her memory of her father then vanishes from her thoughts. She then turns to the others and listens attentively to the conversation.

OOC: Well, we haven't heard from [MENTION=78756]Son of Meepo[/MENTION] in a bit, but everyone has checked in otherwise. So what is the plan? Where to next? Get on a boat with Vermitrax? Explore another location? Succumb to the evil seeping into the core of Daunton?
 

Lilli suggests where she'd like to go next, "Well, as we are here in Cobblestop, I'd like to briefly nip in to two places and cast our eyes over a third. Just up Magi Walk is the Breaded Bun, a tea and bun shop. I kept a room above the bakery and it was a very nice place to wake up to! The Halfling owners rented out rooms that were suitable for those with smaller figures like myself. I'm curious to see if there are any signs of what became of the family. Also, I never put my finger on it, but the place may have had some sort of elusive benign spirits or fey living there that helped the place stay clean."

Lilli muses further, "Just off the 'Walk on Clacker's Run is Gen's Tailoring, also Halfling owned. Finest dressmakers and lady's parlour in Daunton, which is why I bought my wonderful, clever attire from there. Probably won't take longer than moment to look in."

Lilli frowns, "Then, maybe we should all take a look at the Shattered Spire to see if there are any obvious signs that anything significantly disturbed the rubble."
 

Mikara is baffled.

An entire city just deciding to give up and move away doesn't make sense, but then again this was how her home ended when the loggers came. They tore down the forests, without which there was no purpose in staying.

Perhaps this sadness that gripped the city dwindled its only true resources: passion, ambition, courage. Without these the city would be empty long before the people left.

It seems to point to some foul magic, but such things are not her specialty.

I wonder if this event is really consistent with the work of an aboleth.

"Lilli, don't take this a wrong way, but your "visits" are kinda...personal. I can understand taking your stuff if you have any, but just going through your haunts instead of going official places which could actually have some records of these events...why would we go randomly to private houses and businesses?"

Drew looks openly, not confrontational, but looking for explanation (that makes sense, more then "I feel like it").

"I think we should go to city hall or the temples, maybe Great Library, but that should maybe be last try?"
 

Raiyek looks somewhat puzzled at Lilli's proposed stops. "I do not mind such stops if they are brief, but I also fail to see how they may help our investigation. I will go with you if the others agree," the paladin offers.

Then, speaking to the group, Raiyek puts forth his suggestion. "The Shattered Spire is a good idea. Perhaps we should check the city hall first, then the Spire, and end with the Great Library? The Library should certainly be on the list, but it will likely only have historical information instead of records from just before the move. That is, if there are even any books left behind. As curious as I am about its fate, there are other places more likely to shed light on the condition of the city."
 

"I agree, paladin. Lilli, lead the way to your appartment, pick up your gear, but the rest...if they are on the way. Unless you have some specific reasong to go there?"

The elf starts tapping his way out of the room.
