Adventure: Delivery of Death (DM: Luinnar, Judge: renau1g)

Jax can't quite force himself to throw away the unsavory candy... it does have a nice red color after all. He stashes it in his backpack.

"I'm confused about what to do next. Jax, I'm happy to follow your lead. Whatever you think will lead to the best adventure!"

"Okay! Then here is the plan: we go to Fiora's house. Then we get a contract from her to find her daughter. If we can't, we go to the inn and relax. Better to leave for Daunton at the start of the day."

Jax nods to Louise in farewell and then departs the bakery.

Jax leads the way outside, followed by Kasha, hoping not to run into that crabby Priest again (Next he'll call us "Meddling Kids" she thinks), RAM TIGER looking like an evil Great Dane, as well as Dorn, Ingot and Luc. As they leave the women notices Luc for the first time. Luc? Are you here to buy something for your brother? Luc? Where are you going? but the youth does not seem hear her.

The party heads their way towards the cottage, noticing a building labeled "General Store" which you did not notice earlier. It is late afternoon. Dark clouds still hang overhead, the storm still threatening the area.

You approach Fiora's cottage south of the church. It is a simple thatched cottage, similar to the ones nearby except for the door and windows which are adorned with clumps of garlic, wolvesbane, and holy symbols. At a tree nearby you see a man kneeling. He gets up and regards you sternly. He is a dark skinned man in his late 30s. He has short dark hair and his face is weather-beaten with a scar across one side. He is wearing leather armor and a rapier sheathed in its scabbard, as well as a strange metal tube with a handle and a trigger stuck in his belt.

Spattered all around him on the ground and the tree are flecks of reddish brown. Before him is a large stain of the same substance, apparently dried blood. In the center of the stain is a single piece of bright red licorice. You must be the adventurers who ruffled Father Brucian's feathers. he says grinning.

Nasty piece of work, no? he says gesturing to the crime scene. Barmade from the inn. Poor Fiora heard the scream this morning, screamed her head off until I came running. Pity she did not see who did it. Refuses to come out of her house since her daughter went missing. You going to come out and meet our guests mon cherie? he says calling to the house.

I'm not coming out until I have my daughter back young man! says a squeaky voice from inside the house. You tell those people to either find my Teresa or go away!

New people in town can bring bad luck! she adds as an afterthought.

Poor Fiora has been strange ever since her daughter went missing, he says, sadly shaking his head. Name's Gremin, constable in these parts. What are adventurers like you doing on the island of Souragne? he says, sticking out his hand.

GM: By the way, when I mix in some french word I'm trying for a Cajun accent. Apologies if you live in an area where it is used (or know better than I do) and I am butchering it :-S

Kasha warms to the man immediately at his mention of ruffling the priest's feathers. Something about him inspires a certain amount of confidence in her, despite all the nasty things she'd take pleasure in saying about law enforcement if you asked her.

Name's Gremin, constable in these parts. What are adventurers like you doing on the island of Souragne? he says, sticking out his hand.

Unanimously nominating herself party spokesperson, Kasha steps up and takes his hand. "Kasha. Pleased to meetcha. We just had a delivery to make, but we didn't reckon on all the murders and walking dead and whatnot. So we figured, since we're here anyway, and it looks like you all might need a little help, maybe we could reach some kind of understanding..." she raises an eyebrow, giving her best winningly rogueish smile.

OOC: Note that if a Diplomacy check or somesuch would actually be helpful here then Kasha is definitely not the girl for the job. Anybody else feel free to pitch in. ;)

Gremin smiled, he knew the type of person he was talking too. If you helped us with our problems I'm sure we would show you our thanks in one way or another he says.

I'll give my most prized possession to anyone who can find my daughter! says the squeaky voice of Fiora from the house.

See, you have one reward already! the man says grinning. The Tarascon family, they are the big-shots around here, usually are generous with their money. What do you say copain, you think Jean would reward these people for helping us with our troubles... Luc? he says going over to the boy and shaking him. Luc? What's wrong with him?

Wait...you know about zombies? he says, just remembering what Kasha said and looking astonished. My son died two weeks ago suddenly... turned into one them... you can't realize how horrible it was...

Don't tell the villagers about it... We don't want to panic. Rumor goes about, they know that strange stuff is happening even if they don't realize it... comprends? he says. If I can help in any way...? he adds.

OOC: As far as you can tell, a diplomacy check won't be needed.

Also note that he mentioned the island being called Souragne, while the strange man called in Sojourn.

"Deal!" shouts Jax immediately.

Jax is a little confused. "They do not already know? Even after we crashed the funeral?" He shrugs. It doesn't matter anyway. He steps a little closer to the splattered gore near Gremin.

"This is so... vicious. Would even a zombie do this? Looks more like the work of a demon to me. At least, someone who enjoys carnage." Jax points at the licorice. "This is not the first murder, right? Were the other crime scenes like this?"

GM: When you opened the casket most of the villagers were long gone, not waiting around to see what was inside.

Every one of the many similar murders scenes and disappearances these last three weeks had one of these at the scene. he says picking up the piece of red licorice. Zombies don't drop pieces of licorice around... No, it is someone with intelligence. The murders are too swift, too exact, it is someone who knows the village and the people well.

The candy comes from the bakery here, I'm sure of it. Which means the person who did it is probably a local.
There was not one around when my son... Gremin's voice breaks off.

He throws the piece of candy on the ground in disgust. But I know all the people of this town! he says with anger. I can't believe anyone would do such things! They are good people! he says shaking his head.

I don't know what to think... I don't know if these zombies and murders and disappearances are all connected. Is one person doing this? More? How are they accomplishing these things? What good am I that I can't even find this out!? he says bitterly.

"Don't worry! You have lots of help now." Jax waves in the direction of his companions. He then walks around the crime scene, careful in each step so as not to disturb anything (and to not get any blood on himself).

OOC: It sounds like there is only blood splattered everywhere. Is there no body?

Perception 16 to find clues.

Kasha looks rather awkward as the constable shows signs of dissolving into self-pity. "Well, uh, not everybody's cut out for this stuff y'know," she sniffs, before softening a little. "Look, don't worry, we're gonna have it under control in no time."
She wanders over to where Jax is examining the crime scene. "See anything?"

GM: Dekana, for some reason I missed your post. I apologize, I would have updated earlier if I'd seen it. :(

Sorry if my posting is slower this week, I'm really busy and don't have a lot of free time during the day. Thankfully I'll have more free time after this week.

Jax and Kasha go over to investigate the blood stains. Blood is spattered all around on the ground and the nearby tree. Despite their attempts, it is impossible to tell from the crime scene how the victim died. As there are no signs of a body being dragged off, it is safe to assume that the victim was carried away by her attacker. You find some boot prints of average size, but perhaps too big to be a woman's foot. Jax cannot tell in what direction the murderer went off from the tracks.

Most of the crime scenes are like this, we find blood everywhere and a piece of licorice but no body. Makes you wonder where the murderer is keeping them and why. Gremin says walking over.

GM: It may be prudent to ask Fiora what she saw (or heard) at the time of the murder since she witnessed it. :)

THE BREAD-LADY IS CLEARLY A WEREWOLF. WE SHOULD KILL HER TO MAKE SURE.

RAM TIGER attempts his own form of tracking by seeing if he can get a scent on the blood.
