Adventure: Food of the Gods (DM: ryryguy, Judge: renau1g)

Hearing Cillani "bring the lightning" from over near Azryah, Chaku takes off to assist them. Using his goliath speed and strength, he easily clears the first column of smoldering plants, wisps of smoke trailing from his boots. The second column he doesn't quite have the same momentum, and nearly lands directly in a small fire crackling on the edge. Seeing the prey, he adjusts his momentum with a quick foot plant, his muscles screaming against the force he carried over the fires.

Not seeing the frenzied gleam in the halflings eyes, he calls out to Azryah over the popping of the fires. Kill him as he would have us, or offer mercy? From the white knuckled grip on his maul, it is clear what Chaku would prefer, but it is always best not to upset the Gods wth too much unecessary slaughter.

[sblock=Mechanics]Double move with 2 long jumps ending in AB19.
1st jump T12->W15: successful 1d20+10=27 due to running start I could clear 5 squares if I want to 27/5= 5.xx
2nd jump X16->AA19: successful: 1d20+10=22 Not taking a running start I still clear the 2 squares 22/10= 2.xx[/sblock]

Azryah shakes her head.

"If that's how you want it, prepare to die. May Merkari's wrath upon your head bring swift justice."

She swings her sword, putting all her weight behind it, and praying that Merkari will hear her prayers and help her to defeat her enemy. The sword cuts deep, slicing a gaping hole in the halfling's side, and he falls to the ground, never to rise again without Lauto's blessing.

Azryah heaves a sigh of relief. and slumps a little as the battle fever wears away.

"That, I believe, takes care of that. Now to see if something can be done about Kaeysari."

She walks carefully back in the direction of the hut where the others are resting.

[sblock=mechanics]Minor: Oath of Enmity on Slinger F
Standard: Bond of Retribution on Slinger F: 1d20+7=8 1d20+7=22 (two rolls for oath and thank goodness for that; higher one is a hit); damage: 1d10+4=14
Move: Walk to W15[/sblock]

Jynxx looks at Krasseus, "You don't happen to know first aid do you?"

[sblock=ooc]

I can't get IE (don't yell at me for using IE) to bring up Jynxx's sheet. I just rolled a d20 and will let you add the modifier for his Heal check (not that it matters with a 6). Jynxx would like to get her up but... comfortable is good to.

1d20=6

As the last opponent goes down, relative silence falls on the plantation, broken only by the softly crackling, dying flames and quiet blubbering from Krassus. He seems to realize that the threat is over, and looks at Jynxx, who is tending to the fallen shifter in the hut. "Umm... who are you people?"

Minor Quest Success!

[sblock=Short Rest]I would assume that you want to take one here... during the short rest, you can talk to Krassus and also search the bodies of the fallen. Kaeysari will awaken at the end of the short rest with 1 hit point. You can all spend surges freely, and with Jynxx's Song of Rest, I believe you get a +5 to each surge you spend (is that correct?).

Let me know if there's anything else you'd like to do during the short rest. You have identified one more trapped tree, which you could set off intentionally safely by shooting at it from a distance, but you can also leave it alone if you prefer. (The high perception types can check out the other remaining trees and verify that they are safe.)

The one thing you can't do is set off after Jaronel immediately. Or rather, you can do that, but if you do so, you won't be able to take the short rest immediately.[/sblock]

[sblock=Encounter]So, that was a pretty rough encounter! In part because I rolled pretty obscenely well at the start, but also the terrain was pretty heavily stacked against you. Because of the terrain and other factors, XP for this encounter will be increased by 10%.

It may have been a bit of a shock to start out with such a tough fight, as many are used to starting out slow and ramping up. Rest assured, not all the encounters will be so tough.

I thought it was great how you pulled out all the stops to save Krassus. Kaeysari in particular paid a heavy price, but that's what heroes do!

In retrospect there are a few things in the encounter I might have done differently. The amount of interrupts and inability to see the whole battlefield was pretty awkward for PbP and probably could have been cut back. I think I'm also overoptimizing my tactics a little bit due to the luxury of time that PbP affords. I will try to pull back on that a bit (though don't expect me to go easy on you ;)).

Finally I made an offhand comment, to renau1g about "bloodying the warden", which I regret. The context for that was events taking place in "A Simple Errand" where he is the DM and I'm a player, but there's no way for you all to know that. Also in written form there is no way to tell from tone of voice and manner that I was just kidding. I realized later that the remark could have come off as pretty nasty and mean. So just in case, I want to make it clear that I'm not out to get a TPK or anything like that. I want to challenge you, not set you up for failure.

As always, fun is paramount. If anyone has other feedback don't be afraid to share it with me. This is my first time DMing in PbP, so I know I will make some mistakes. :)[/sblock]

//OOC: Jynxx, with Az KOing the last enemy, combat should be ending soon, at which point Kaey will wake up on her own since you stabilized her. Feel free to keep RPing the TLC you are giving her, but no more checks should be needed. DOH, ninja'd by ryry!//

As the adrenaline leaves Chaku, he looks around once again at the surroundings, partially to ensure no more enemies approach, and partially to let some stress out of his neck. He trots down to where the pack animals have been quietly grazing and leads them up to the hut, stopping to retreive the fallen halflings. Stripping them on any valuables outside of armor and weapons, he then tosses them into the smoldering trees like a makeshift pyre and says a few words in dwarvish for them, wishing them well in their fights beyond. (People can stop him if they want to)

Returning to the group, he nods slightly to Krassus before looking down to the fallen shifter, Ahh, she still breathes, good. He then sits against the inner wall of the hut, slowly breathing while the music washes over him.

[sblock=Healing]Once Jynxx starts up the song of rest, I'll spend a surge and be at 28/33[/sblock]

Kaeysari groans slowly and begins to awaken, her face deforming back to its original shape as her body acclimates itself to being out of danger. Wincing, she slowly sits up, removes her helmet, and feels the lump on her head where the sling stone hit. She mutters something in Imperia then repeats it in Allarian. "Did we save him?"

[sblock=ooc]With two healing surges at +5, Kaeysari gets to 25/28.[/sblock]

Papolstaanas comes scampering out of the underbrush, preceded by the bizarre snowdrift that is accompanying him. "Is it over?" he asks timidly.

The freezing winds spread out in a few fitful gusts, scattering flakes of ice everywhere, before finally dying down. Papolstaanas is left coated in frost, some of which has found its way into his armor. He suddenly starts shivering.

[sblock=surges and ministats]Papolstaanas will spend 2 more surges to get up to 33 hp with Song of Rest.

Yes, we saved him, a large part because of your gods intervention on his behalf. I felled the serpent-shifter and one of the halflings and Azryah took the final one. That reminds me, he says as he slowly hoists himself back up, and heads out of the hut to deal with the wereserpent. Again, removing any valuables beyond armor and weapons, and again saying a small prayer in dwarven as he tosses the serpent on a few burning bushes.

Returning to the hut, he sizes up Krassus. So you're Krassus eh? Care to share with us what was going on just then?

Azryah enters the hut in time to hear Chaku's question and watches Krassus closely waiting for a reply. She slumps to the ground, seated against the wall of the hut and tends to her wounds while listening.

[sblock=healing]With a +5 to surges, Az spends one and is back to full HP.[/sblock]

Papolstaanas follows the others into the hut, still shivering a little and hugging himself. "We did it!" he exults, seeming to forget that there's still a load of zocalti to deliver, which is likely to be a difficult when all of the zocalti trees are on fire. "Kaeysari, are you all right?"
