"How'd you like to ride my doggie for a while? Alton's a fine dog and I'm sure he'd love to get to know a wonderful girl like you."
"No," Laynie says firmly and with finality, "I don't want your stupid dog. Just...just leave me alone! I don't want to love anybody any more! They'll...they'll just go away...Leave me by myself!"

Cade nods to Tandi, then whistles. Alton bounds over to Cade and begins sniffing Laynie. "See, he likes you. You con't close yourself off, because love is what keeps the rest of us going. And not everyone you love will leave you. I'm sure we can find you a great place to stay with all the love you could ever want."

"No! Just please, go away! I don't want you or your stupid dog! I'm so sad, but Doggie isn't here to love me...to make me feel better...But he was alright...He was going to be okay...I could feel it in my heart...why did he leave me?...WHY?!!"

Seeing the distraught girl, Anton tries to get her attention, "Laynie... would you like to pray for the render with me? I think Doggie is with Halina now, making many people happy."

"Pray? What's that? Isn't that like where a wolf hunts someone? I don't want to prey on Doggie! And who's this mean Halina lady who took away Doggie? I want him back! Tell her I need him right now! The other people can come too if they want--I don't care."

"Laynie, he's talking about a goddess who will watch over and take care of your doggie, and make sure that he's safe where he is now."

Cade hopes someone else can help him calm the child down, this is definately not his area of expertise. (OOC: Unless Handle Animal helps :D)

"A goddess? I don't know what those are, but I think Mommy said that they were hippos or critical or something--gods too, I think. I like the word god because its spelled G-O-D. If you spell it backwards, it spells D-O-G, dog. But I don't remember much about my mommy...She's gone, and Doggie's gone too! But why? He was OK! He saved me but even after he was OK!" she begins to sob again.

Anton kneels to Laynie's height, "Well, Laynie, praying is talking to a god or goddess. And gods are great people so amazing that if you saw them, you would be stunned. They watch over the world in various ways. Halina makes the crops strong, makes new babies, and makes everybody healthy. She is very nice. That doggie wants to work with her means that doggie is going to help everyone be healthy, happy, and strong."

*Laynie seems somewhat impressed.*

"She does all that? Wow! That's pretty good for a hippo."

*She shakes her head.*

"But I know its not true. Mommy told me all that is just make-believe. Besides, look at Doggie. He's asleep forever. He can't do anything...I can't feel his love anymore, and I always could before! He's gone."

"Gods work on a different level. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not there. Sometimes you have to have faith. You have to belive and hold on to that belief. It can bring you closure."
