Adventure: Into the Wild

The group is working their way through the forest when suddenly they hear a plea from a female voice. They spot a delicate red haired beauty wearing a suggestive green dress. She seems to lie wounded near a large tree.

Renquist moes closer to help. Nementah shouts a warning, recognizing the woman for she is; a dryad. It's too late. As soon as Renquist approaches, the tree animates. A vaguely human face can be seen in the trank and powerful branches seize the paladin, immbilizing him with crushing strenght.

-''Ah! Flee invaders, flee and perhaps we'll let your friend go once you have disappeared from our domain. But if you don't, the Ancient One will break his back like a twig!'' she shrieks.

[sblock=Behind the scene]
1:Dante 2:Ibram 3:Nementah 4:Renquist 5:Rocco (1d20+8=13, 1d20+2=14, 1d20+11=21, 1d20+3=11, 1d20+3=15)

The reason Renquist ended grabbed is he scored the lowest nature roll, and the reason Nemantah looks good for having spotted the danger is she scored highest.

But no matter what, someone was going to end up grabbed. It's part of the challeng!

I'm not really good at any of these skills so I'll say:
Nementah quickly whispers:
"That creature is a dryad. The tree is her home and partner. She's not malicious by nature, something agitated them."

To the creature:
"Please, sister, let him go. We didn't do anything to you and we're just passing by, looking for some lost friends. I couldn't but notice there is disturbance here. Might we be of assistance?"

Nature aid another (should be auto success but I rolled just to see how good did I do, except IC seems to be down :(Nature aid another (1d20+11=22) )

Rocco looks around searching for signs of damage or disturbance on either of the pair or in the vicinity. If he spots anything he subtly (as far as he's able to do it such) points it out to more diplomatic party members.

Perception (aid another) (1d20+8=15)

He's hands stray to shafts of his weapons, but he doesn't draw any at the moment.

QUESTION: can I attack renquist with funneling fury (I know, sorry for the damage) even though he's an ally and slide him out of trees grasp? I would slide the tree in opposite direction if I hit...

[sblock=OOC]
Social skills are really not Rocco's forte. I imagine this use of perception builds upon MetaVoid's suggestion that 'something' agitated these two. Rocco looks for any sign of damage or disturbance

Ibram cautiously approaches the tree with his hands out to his side. A small nimbus of bluish light dances between his fingers.

"Erm..pardon me Mr..erm, uh..Mrs. Dryad? We don't mean ye any harm, in fact we were just on our way over here to see if ye needed any help! Such a pretty lass like yerself sittin' all by her lonesome, tearing up and crying like a newborn pup." Ibram pauses to gauge any sort of reaction.

"Now I know me mate Renquist 'ere looks like one of the bad folk that's been hurting your 'lovely' forest 'ere, but I assure ye that he is as pious and just as the mighty river spirits that feed you day to day. I simply ask that ye here us out and maybe we can help you wit' whatever your troubles are? What do ye say?"

[sblock=OOC] Using Words of Friendship on this one so +18 to diplomacy! Woot! 1d20+18 → [13,18] = (31) Roll Lookup Well..that's all from me. [/sblock]

"Nay Half Elf! Don't bargain with this fairy. She is just now beginning to realize her mistake. You have foolishly played your petty trick on a being blessed by Lauto!" Renquist angles his face so she can see his piercing red eyes. "Ye thinks ye be in the summer of your life span, but ye fast approach the winter."

Dark energy seems to focus around the paladin. The leaves closest to his trapped form lose their green and begin to fade to yellow.

"Now... Put. Me. Down."

[sblock=actions] Intimidate 1d20+8+2+2 → [13,8,2,2] = (25) Roll Lookup [/sblock]

"Blessed fey creature! Hear me! Release the Paladin and we will make sure your forest lives forever!" Shouts Ibram. "Don't invoke his wrath! I beg you!"

[sblock=Check] 1d20+13 → [14,13] = (27) Diplomacy ftw. Roll Lookup [/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]

-''So... you are not the invaders?'' asks the dryad as the tree releases Renquist. ''You are not... with them?'' she says, pointing behind the heroes.

They turn and see nothing but soon hear a low rumbling sound growing louder. First they see a few dozens of goblins enter the clearing. Wait, they can't make the earth tremble! Then a tightly packed ranks of hogoblin. Ah. Then a band of bugbear.

The leader, a brute of at bugbear with an unusually cunning air look at the heroes and smiles.

Run. Run!

[sblock=Skill challenge]
It's a warband. Have no delusions of standing and fight.

Active skills are now: Acrobatic, Athletic and Endurance as you try to stay ahead of the goblinoids.

OOC: Stealth? Maybe after first round we get some distance between us?

"No, we're not with them. And we'll try to help as we said. Now, move, people! Go! Go! Go!"
True to her instructions she inhales deeply drawing oxygen into her leaves and takes off through the forest!

Endurance with Speak with spirits (1d20+4+4=26) - blah! wasted power :) that's one!

Dante meets up with Virgil again and the two tear off through the woods. "Easier to run here than the plains of Dis, no Virgil?" Dante says.

[sblock=Athletics]1d20+9=18[/sblock]

Renquist jogs steadily away from the goblinoids. Unfortunately, he wasn't paying attention to the environment and he tripped and fell, slowing the escape.

[sblock=actions] Endurance. 1d20+10 → [4,10] = (14) Roll Lookup . Bummer, should have made that! [/sblock]
