The druid reacts after the teifling's blunder, putting his staff between Faustus and the archer. "Wait he has offered us to recant, let us at least listen to what he has to say. Ruarc, I am truly sorry about your family, but nothing you do here will be able to bring them back; if you want to keep other families safe then could we not find out where more of these miscreants are hiding?" Elurin, kneels down and looks into the eyes of the archer, "I am unsure that we can trust you." [sblock=Insight]Insight - a true recantation? (1d20+9=10) - oh well ...[/sblock]
OOC: we are in a sandbox so plot hooks are not going to be thrown to us; do we want to waste this one?I am sorry for posting before everyone else; I just wanted to get that in before we executed the poor slob

Faustus, Tiefling Avenger of Lauto

Faustus, fuming at his inability to connect on his attacks and still breathing heavily from hefting the great maul during the attempts, pauses, "Only the eminently merciful grace of Lauto has spared you this time, you pitiful dungheap." Turning toward Elurin, he continues, "I shall abide by your wishes, and will forgo my vengeance for the nonce."

"Trust me, friend, I am very much aware that nothing I do will bring back my wife and daughter." He stands with his back to the bandit and his friends, absently stroking the ornate band around his upper arm. "I spent the first year after their murders seeking vengeance, much to my shame. I learned a few things during that time. Anyone who spends his life terrorizing and killing those weaker than he in order to steal what they have made or earned is a disease that should be removed from this world - not for revenge but for the safety of those of us who still live. And that bandits are never to be trusted. Do as you will with this one, so long as he is physically incapable of returning to his previous . . . occupation . . . when you're finished. If he is, I'll hunt him down and finish what we started here. Just remember, any damage he does before I catch up to him could have been prevented."

With these words, Ruarc re-enters the compound to see to their hosts.

"At the very least, we must leave a physical mark upon him so that all who see him will recognize him immediately for who and what he is."

Elurin struggles to cut through the bandit's words, he could be honest, or feeding the fey a load of BS, it was hard with this one.

As Elurin leans in, you notice a small silver amulet around his neck shaped in the likeness of a stag's skull.

"Well, whatcha want to know? If ya can't be trustin' ol Happs then maybe ya should let that devilboy do his work" he asks with a grin

As Ruarc returns to the compound he finds the Levetons quite happy at the work they did cleaning up the bandits, but also busy putting out the flames. They're mostly out by the time the goliath enters the area, and Oleg's grumbling about needing to round up the beasts before they go and twist an ankle.

At the sight of the giant, they smile and Oleg says "I've got something special for ya big guy. Wait here" he says, running into his house, and returning with a bundle. He hands it to Ruarc and inside is a well-crafted battleaxe. "I was saving this for a rich traveler or adventuring type like yourself, but seems like a fair reward for your help. I ain't got one for everyone so I hope the others are ok with this. It's good for clearing out plant life in an area" he says with a smile.

"I thank you, Oleg." Ruarc accepts the axe with grave courtesy. "We are likely to be in this area for a while, exploring and bringing some safety for folk such as yourself. This will be a fine tool to help us accomplish our ends."

He gives the axe a few experimental swings, then drops it into a loop on his belt and sets to helping the couple clean up the compound, working with a will to take his mind off the troubling mess with the bandit.

Faustus, Tiefling Avenger of Lauto

Faustus tests the edge of his dagger. "Aww, can't I just cut a little piece of 'im off? You know, like a souvenir? I know! How about both of his big toes?"
