[Adventure]: Shards of Eldanarth (DM: MadAzolin, Judge: ??)

The warlock steps forward toward the creature and bows slightly.

(speaks in eladrin)
"Hunters of the Wild,
Martelai Luinil, son of Lianneren Aedre, greets you in peace. Please excuse our intrusion, it was unintended.
We offer to share our camp with you and your companions and tell you stories about great hunts in our world."

OOC: [MENTION=6747396]MadAzolin[/MENTION], if Martelai has any notion of WHAT they are or their society, I'll change the above to fit more closely to what he knows and offer what they value more.

Lilli wonders what the heck she's going to say about hunting. A particularly good harvest of Blackberries would impress her, but she's not so sure it'd work for this elf and his apparently concealed companions.

Creature sweeps party with its shining eyes, scanning one by one and paying particular attention to Lilli and Martelai. Finally it turns toward warlock, speaking several words in language of eladrin [sblock="eladrin"]
"Martelai Luinil, son of Lianneren Aedre, Fyrnnirigil Ghostraven, Eye of the Hunt and second to the Leader of the Hunt greets you in peace."
[/sblock] Creature strikes its taloned fist against its chest and continues: [sblock="eladrin"]
Like many before you, you have come to this place sacred to the Mistress of the Hunt and like many times before, Mistress has called for The Hunt. We are the hunters, you are the prey, such is The Way and such is The Will of the Mistress! Be honored you who lead those who came from worlds not our, for it is great honor to take part in The Hunt.
Listen carefully prey, for The Rules shall be said but once.
[/sblock]
Waiting for a bit to see reaction, creature points toward oversized silvery moon that is slowly descending toward the horizon and continues: [sblock="eladrin"]
When the silver moon sets and The Hunter's moon rises, when the horn sounds and call is set forth shall the Hunt begin and when the hunter’s moon comes down shall the Hunt be halted until The Hunter's moon rises again, such is the rule of the Hunt!
While The Hunt lasts, the prey will not leave the hunting grounds - way of your coming has been sealed and shall not be opened until the hunt ends, such is the will of the Mistress!
[/sblock]
Continuing, creature points toward tall mountain peak barely visible in the distance: [sblock="eladrin"]
All the Hunter can observer from the summit of Hunter's Talon are the Hunting grounds, except for the Palace of Stars. The Hunt lasts until prey is hunted down, until they leave hunting grounds or until The Mistress calls off the hunt.
[/sblock]
Finally, creature takes one more assessing look of party and finishes: [sblock="eladrin"]
Ask now if you must and prepare yourselves, Silver moon is setting and The Hunter's moon will gaze upon us soon. The horn will sound and The Hunt will be on.

You are not really sure what they are - they might be some weird elves or eladrin changed by nature of Fey or they might be something else. What you do know however is that hunting is quite popular sport in the Fey-lands and this lot seems quite serious about it. 'Mistress of the Hunt' creature is referring to might be anything of local powerful monsters, archfey or even some of gods known to men (although probably called different here).

Thinking about undead, demons and ghosts didn't get you far, but you did manage to remember some of pages from tomes that didn't interest you that much back at home. Monsters are definitely natives of feywild, tomes you remember refer to them in several different names - Hunters, Firbolg, Fyrhaar... according to things you can remember, they are described as monstrous, dangerous things that have bad habit of hunting humans for sport and are typically mentioned in tales for scaring children. While commonly considered superstition, these tales mention 'giant hunters that come from 'strange realms' and carry away children who break their vows and promises (to parents). They are told to 'carry skins and aspects of man-eating beasts and come when moon is high in the sky to hunt and take away'.
Thinking about it again, you are fairly sure those descriptions should be taken with grain of salt...

You cannot remember much about 'giant hunters'. However you are fairly sure they are not making idle threats. It is almost strange - you don't feel any hostility from these creatures and even feel reasonably safe here with them, but have strong feeling that will change...

With all this talk about hunts and all, it sounds kinda bad. However you cannot shake off feeling you are not really target of any of that talk - if you are alone, they would probably leave you in peace (or not register you at all). However same cannot be told about rest of group - they seem to be eyeing Martelai and Kane quite hungrily...
[/sblock]

"Hmmm I'm not sure these things would by here for chatting. As far as I recall they hunt men for sport when the moon is high in the..." Vermitrax looks at the position of the moon. "..Sky... Lets search for a defensible position while we still can?"

Lilli tugs the sleeve of Kane, "Yes, let's go and discuss this one elsewhere or indeed anywhere for the moment. These fellows are all hunting horn and no dinner, if you take my meaning."

Lilli starts to head off neither directly towards or away from the mountain in the distance.

"I have questions. How many of you are there? I wouldn't like to be responsible for destroying whole tribe of hunters just for the amusement of some unknown lady. In other words, how will we know we defeated you? Second, where is Palace of Stars? We wouldn't like to stumble into it by accident and violate your rules."

Cyr goes over his learning about feywild, but it's sketchy at best. If there is some vulnerability or weakness of the giants, it would be nice to remember it.

Martelai looks at the hunter, his eyes inscrutable.

He then looks at his companions and finally answers the invoker in hurried whispers first.
"I believe Palace of Stars is one of the end game elements, as one of the rules says that if prey leaves the hunting grounds The Hunt is off, it's not breaking the rules. The lady is probably one of sidhe lords or eladrin ancients. I like the name Palace of Stars."

Turning back toward the hunters
"Thank you for the fair warning. Now heed one too. We're not here to fight needlessly, but you might find this group more resourceful then you would like. If you have some rule that you didn't state now due to overconfidence, speak now or don't complain about the consequences. My question is: Do you know what this key opens?"
he shows the amulet.

After receiving the answer he follows the party.

Once out of easy earshot
"Anyone good with setting traps in the wilderness, moving unseen and in general being anything but easy target in this surroundings? I would hate to be cornered, but it could be our only chance, to find a defensible spot and simply endure the night."

OOC: [MENTION=6747396]MadAzolin[/MENTION], the ruins that we followed or those where we appeared, any of them offer any enclosure? With enough space to be spaced apart so we don't fall prey to area attacks and yet limited enough to contain the giants (I'm assuming they are large creatures?

Vermitrax chuckles at the invoker's questions. "Caring too much for your killers, comrade. You should worry more about your own safety, these things will kill you if they can, you should show nothing but merciless disinterest for their lives."
To Martelai´s question "Not sure how much expertise in that we would need to stay off these Firbolg, Fyrhaar whatever. I think our best bet would be to find a cave or to reach the mountain before they can get to us. Perhaps there are more caves around the mountain, so why might attempt both. There must surely be more hunters hidden in the forest, and they will all fall on us the moment that moon reaches the highest point in the sky."

"Well, hitch up your robes and run then. I'm not sure how much we can trust them not to follow us before that happens, but if they remain here, we could actually gain some time by not leaving obvious trail by running. Running in the forest is not a good idea, it's easy, well, even easier to get lost."
