[Adventure]: Shards of Eldanarth (DM: MadAzolin, Judge: ??)

MetaVoid:
Creature regards invoker with small smile: "You have spirit, good - it is just as She foretold. Prey that fails to struggle is poor prey, it would be no sport, no challenge at all. How many of us are there? While one can say we have unfair advantage in such knowledge, it would be folly from hunter to reveal their numbers to prey - do your hunters reveal such things to their prey? I wouldn't say so.
Defeating us? Prey rarely decides to stand face to face against the Great Hunt, but it certainly happens. It will be glorious day if you do so and if you prove to be worthy prey, we will make sure to etch your names on the Pillar of Glory and proudly present trophies of the Hunt to those who will come after you. If however you manage to weather full fury of The Hunt, scatter all the hunting parties that come and finally defeat Leader of the Hunt and greatest of his hunters in all their glory and all their terror, then shall the Hunt end and never be called upon you again unless you wish so. You will be offered to lead the Hunts yourselves and your names and deeds will be held in reverence among us.
Palace of Stars? Now... we wouldn't want to make this too easy to prey, do we? You were told enough."
Thinking about monsters and fey, Cyr cannot recall much of significant use - they are most certainly magical creatures (just like most other things in Fey) and expecting at least some druidish or sorcerer magic from them along with considerable combat ability is not unrealistic, but it is hard to tell any details.
Neurotic:
Creature smiles at warlock's remarks and questions: "Good, I don't expect you to roll over and die, there would be no sport in that, death in the hunt is a good death and I hope you prove equal to your words when we meet during The Hunt. As for rules themselves, it is simple - The Hunt forbids no resource that you (or we) might have. While the Hunt is paused, you will not be hunted and The Hunters will make no attempt to make Hunt unfair by hounding you or spying on you. However you will be treated as our enemy if you attack us when The Hunt is paused and in that case no more hunting pauses will be called. Keep in mind there are other creatures which inhabit The Hunting grounds and many of them care not for the hunt - if they attack you during The Hunt or hunting pause, it is your problem.
The Amulet? It marks you as prey, all those who came before you carried it and you carry it. However I know no more about it."
[sblock="ooc"]Most of ruins you passed are not particularly useful as defensive positions. Some might provide difficult terrain and some cover, but little else. Creatures are indeed large, but ruins themselves are quite large as well, it would be hard to find tight spots where they have trouble maneuvering but you don not. [/ooc]
[sblock="insight"]
You have feeling these creatures are good on their word - you don't think they will follow you or do anything else before The Hunt starts - it would be poor sport and it is obvious they don't intend to just try and kill you - they would already have attacked from ambush if they wanted so.

Kain eyes the leader. "The h-hunt will h-have n-no honour. W-we are wounded. H-hunting us will b-be t-too easy. U-unfair. W-we n-need t-time to h-heal. T-time to r-rest. Otherwise the h-honour is f-for the w-wild owls that k-killed us b-before we m-met you." His eyes narrow as he waits for a response from the giant.

OOC: Can we take an extended rest before the hunt begins?

When the group heads of Kane stutters: "W-we n-need a p-place where it is b-better to be s-small than b-big."

Lerrick recovers quickly from learning that her group is considered as prey. She continues with Kane's request: Surely you would agree that if we are to be your prey that you would want us at full strength...Yes?

diplomacy: 1d20+12=29

Creature observes Lerrick carefully and it seems to understand the point: "Your request is not pointless, but it is not for us to decide. Mistress has called for The Hunt and hunt will begin as The Hunter's moon rises. If you ran into monsters before, it does not change the rules - Hunters have not caused you any trouble and will not until the hunt begins, but we cannot give you any more time to rest, such is the way and such it was for all those that came before you. If you get attacked by more monsters on your run to Palace of Stars it is your problem as well, as is ours if they attack us.
Only exception we will make is if you decide to stand and fight full fury of The Great Hunt - if you do so, we will wait for you to be at full strength."

Standing here and resting does not sound like best idea ever. While you can attempt to rest bit out of the way, somehow you have feeling that Hunt will begin before you manage to rest properly - it is difficult to tell when Silver moon will set, but you likely have no more then few hours. However you certainly have time for short rest, perhaps for some rituals as long as they don't take too long, perhaps to try and find cover, hiding or defensive ground or just to take head start. This is most certainly terrain familiar to Hunters and somehow you suspect they will use hounds or equivalent and likely magic to try and track you down and they likely move faster then you do in this terrain (at least unless you somehow manage to increase your speed significantly). Also these hunters here are likely not only ones around.

Kane scoffs. "N-no h-honour g-giant. You p-play the n-noble h-hunter. B-but you are j-just c-cowards. C-cowards who attack l-lost travellers w-while they are w-weak, w-wounded and c-confused f-from their j-journey. If w-we d-defeat you, y-you sh-should fall upon y-your s-spear in sh-shame. And even if w-we f-fall, my g-ghost will haunt y-you til the end of y-your days, t-to r-remind you of y-your c-cowardice and h-hypocrisy. Th-their will be n-no h-honour in y-your d-death if y-you f-fall at o-our hands. If y-you f-fall to us with s-such a g-great advantage, th-then you are t-truly p-p-p-p-pathetic." Realising that this evil creature is not going to shift from its twisted beliefs, Kane begins walking at a brisk pace out of the encampment, continuing on the direction they had been heading when they stumbled into this calm death trap.

"The strong hunt the weak, such is the Way of The Wild." says the half-fey calmly.

"We have to find the palace or get out of sight of that mountain."

He takes the amulet out and orders it in eladrin (and if it doesn't work, in draconic too):
"Show me the way to palace of Stars." he keeps it in front of his eyes as he turns in a circle.

If that fails, he continues to run to catch up with the rest of the group.

As Martelai concentrates on the amulet, he senses power within it, arcane resonance that seems to be waiting. Contact feels warm and welcoming, as it item was waiting for something. Flashes of images fill warlock's mind, threatening to overwhelm him and disappear as fast as they manifested, leaving behind sense of emptiness. While it is difficult to remember anything in particular, Martelai can make out few things - path to the Palace of Stars is directly ahead, past the tree Hunter sits on. It ends shortly and terrain gets rougher and overgrown with vegetation, then turns into swamp before emerging into open glades surrounded by forest. It goes on toward ruins on hills beyond the glades and somewhere in those ruins lies the Palace. Details however are beyond Maretelai's reach...
There is more, sense of power within the amulet that just waits to be unlocked... warlock cannot shake off feeling it is within his reach, if only he decides to reach for it...
In addition, further observation reveals amulet radiates with stronger magic then it did before - it seems to be in tune with this place

Martelai stops.
"Wait!"
he calls to the group
"The way to the palace is through The Hunters! Let's go before they decide we know too much already. The forest turns into the jungle further on then becomes swampy. Afterwards it's open glades and into the ruins where the palace is."

OOC: MadAzolin, I do NOT intend to take some feat to utilize the item without some OOC explanation/mechanics

The cleric moves quickly following the warlock, turning back one more time to gaze at the hunters before they disappear behind the forest foliage.
