"Too right, fellers, that's a language anyone can understand, eh?" Jack softly replies, nodding in return. He again holds his finger to his lips with a quietly shushing noise, and tosses a silver coin to each of the slaves. Jack pulls out another pair of coins, gold this time, and shows them to the slaves. Remembering the map that Janos had shown them, he heads for the door in the north wall toward which they had been retreating, and beckons for the slaves to follow him.

Once the slaves appear to understand, Jack opens the door to what should be a wood storage room with an exterior door, if Janos' map was correct. He'll enter the room, have a good look around, and wait for the two slaves to join him.

After picking up the silver they look at eachother for a moment and then nod. They stop talking. The slaves follow you immediately when you beckon them and together you step into the next room.

Behind the door is indeed the a wood storage. Along the northern wall are staples of chopped wood. On the east wall hangs an axe.

[Jack, remember to sign out! ;)]

[Yeah... :) It was a problem with cookies. It should be fixed now.]

Standing in the wood shed, Jack thinks for a moment on how to communicate his desire...

He points at the door that leads outside. He points at the slaves, then points at himself. He scissors two fingers to make a walking gesture on one hand, and then points at the door again. He puts his finger to his mouth with another shush and displays the pair of gold coins again. Finally, he makes a sweeping gesture for the slaves to lead the way outside.

Jack waits to see if they understand. He listens intently to every sound they make, in an effort to pick up any password they might use when walking through the alarmed door.

Listen +8.

The slave points at himself, makes your walking gesture, points to the door and shakes his head.

He takes a step back, stands on his toes, spreads his arms and then makes some weird gestures and points at the door.

When he sees Jack raise an eyebrow at his weird gestures, he holds his hand close to the door, pretends to take something between his thumb and indexfinger and turns his wrist.

The other slave takes the axe off the wall and pretends to hit the door with it.

Jack checks out the door a little more closely to make certain the slave is talking about the magical ward on the door, and not an actual physical lock. He also double checks to see which side of the door the hinges are on.

Jack holds his hand out to the slave with the axe. "Not yet, pal," he says, knowing the slave can't understand him anyway. "That's not a bad idea, though... I wonder if the alarm spell still works after you break the object its guarding... I wonder if that window in the parlor is cracked enough to break the spell... I wish Janos had told me more about how that spell works..."

Jack looks for a lock and finds something that might function like one, however it's in a bad shape and would take no longer than ten seconds to open. By the positioning of the hinges, you conclude that the door must open outwards.

The slaves whisper to eachother: "Hoorde je dat, hij noemde hem?"

"Ja, nu of nog even wachten?"

"Wacht maar tot ie met z'n rug naar ons toe staat..."

There's something tickling at the back of Jack's mind. A culmination of all the small details he's noticed sneaking around the wizard's house... The unreasoning fear of the guards... The fountain statue resembling Janos with the glowing purple orb and the skull-capped staff... The docility of slaves who are given access to an axe and free run of the house... None of it seems to fit in well with Janos' story, but Jack can't quite put the puzzle together himself.

"Boy, I wish we babbled the same lingo," he tells the slaves in frustration. "Nevertheless, it's about time to bring in someone who's a flashier gab than I am."

Jack selects a long, slender, strong sliver of wood from the wood pile, and draws his slim dagger from its sheath. Using these makeshift tools, he sets to work opening the old door lock.

"Keep an eye open," he explains to the uncomprehending slaves, "and I'll have this lock jimmied in a shake."

Open Locks +6 (+4)... -2 for makeshift tools. Jack will take as long as he needs to openthe lock.

Jack opens the door and steps through, again there is no sign of an alarm...

When he steps outside, to his right he can see some dim light, just some feet into the forest...

The slaves seem reluctant to follow you...probably because someone demonstrated the punishment for running away...

Jack tosses the two gold coins to the slaves. He motions toward the door that leads back to the bunk room, and lays both hands beside his face, as if sleeping. He shushes with a finger to his mouth one last time.

Turning back to the door, his pulls his magical lantern from his pack and opens the shutters. He waves the light toward the woods two or three times to get the attention of his companions.

OOC: Sorry for the wait, guys... Come join in. I've done my job, now it's your turn... ;)
