Last saturday my swashbuckler in Freeport got eaten by a tree!

In another adventure we met a couple of trolls. Fiendish trolls. You know what fire resistance does to trolls, don't you?

Two days in a row, my morning is made happier by the same thread! :D

Protection from Arrows tends to fall before GMW.

I think a big part of your problem is the ridiculous duration of GMW. At the higher levels (7+), the spell lasts all day (might need extend), and if your cleric bought (or you buy your cleric) a prayer bead of kharma for 5,000 gp, you suddenly have +4 or +5 weapons, plus 50 arrows of the same power.

Trilogy of the Avatars

Our DM bought the Time of Troubles quest and decided to run in 3e. We were all smart enough not play non-spellcasters, hee.

Anyways, we ran into the same problem with our group's archer. Although, in our case, we simply can't blame it on the DM. I mean he's converting 2e stuff into 3e, roleplaying Elminster, Midnight, and Kelemvor really well. BTW, my DM hated Adon, so he had him killed really early. Bhaal avatars was frightening. Anyways, all the others, at one time or the other, have come extremely close to death, hp at -5 at least. Whereas the archer is never hurt. His three attacks average 40 damage per round. And he's a pure fighter. No unbalanced PrCs or magic item. He has a masterwork mighty composite longbow, my DM is rather restrictive when it comes to treasure. Rapid shot, point blank shot, precise shot, weapon focus, weapon specialization.

The reason he never dies, is because we play an extremely tactics heavy game. The melee characters all converge onto the opponents, while he stays back and let the arrows sing.

I'd say your DM is wrong. So what if your archer is powerful? There's always something stronger than you. Try sending a pack of monks who do deflect arrows or something. :)

Wow! I know we just came off Easter, but I wasn't expecting this thread to be resurrected after 11 months!

But since it's back up, here's a report on the progress. We're still on the same campaign (we take turns DM-ing, so we had a couple of breaks) and my PC's up to 14th lvl. All the other PCs are 13th (a couple of them died, hence the drop). And we don't have the problem I started this thread about any more.

That's partly because my DM's a lot more used to 3e power levels now. And partly because when the mage is disintegrating huge dragons in an instant, the clerics are throwing out flame strikes and strutting around with huge ACs and attack bonuses, and the rogue is getting off three sneak attacks in a round and doing the normal damage + 8d6 each (sneak attack with a holy weapon), suddenly the archer doesn't look all that scary. It was just a matter of practice and perspective, as I'd opined when I started this thread. Plus I think sucking out the archer's soul and having it stuck in a coin at the bottom of a deep lake made him feel good :D

So it's a good deal all around. Thanks for all the opinions and ideas.
