After Pazuzu - what's next for the Demons?

I am indeed doing two more installments in the Demonomicon series (and no, I'm not going to spill the beans on who's covered in those two, because to cross Lord Mona is akin to looking directly into the sun... it's something you do in tiny doses if you want ot keep your sight), but they're certainly not my own. I'm actually really looking forward to seeing what other writers come up with for installments of their own, and I'll certainly get tired of writing them well before the delicious possibilities of the 1st edition Monster Manual II's page 35 is exhausted.

And those never statted or really discussed, such as Abraxus, Ahuzu, Ahrimanes, Aldinach, Alrunes, Anarazel, Ansitif, Ardat, Areex, Aseroth, Asima, Astaroth, Azeal, Azazel, Barbu, Bayemon, Bechard, Baltazo, Cabiri, Charun, Dagon, Eblis, Ereshkigal, Gresil, Laraie, Mastiphal, Munkir, Nekir, Nergel, Nocticula, Obox-ob, Socothbenoth, Soneilon, and Verin (listed in the 1E MM2)?

Bah! Obviously they need an article on Alzrius! ;)

Slightly more seriously, Erik, how strict is it that these need be Demon Lords?

Quite honestly, the Arch-Devils could use a second glance (not to mention the other almost-as-powerful Devil Lords), but there's also a wealth of untapped potential for the Altraloths (Anthraxus, Typhus, Bubonix, Cholerix, Diptherius, Cerlic (aka Charon), Taba, Xenghara, etc.) or the Slaad Lords (Ssendam, Ygorl, Chorst, Renbuu, Bazim-Gorag), etc.

I know some of those will probably be covered elsewhere, but there are more unique figures besides the Princes of the Abyss. Are those acceptable choices, or not?

but, you're just a kitten. ;)

Be nice, I make the gravity that keeps you in place (and if you don't get the joke, go here).

Slightly more seriously, It'd be nice if my namesake got something, as he's only had mentions in four products, tops, with maybe two paragraphs at most about him. It's time for more!

Ah, a man after my own heart.

I was wondering the same thing. :)

For the present articles, we'll be sticking to the demon lords. That's not to say that the other stuff is off limits, but it would probably take a different form. I think one could cover the slaad lords or, say, the Elemental Princes of Evil (to hint at a proposal I'd automatically accept) in a single "overview"-style article. I'd likewise do something similar with the daemons. The devils, on the other hand, have seen their day in the sun in Ed Greenwood's justly famous Dragon series, and I'm afraid I'm not too interested in them. They got decent treatment in "Guide to Hell" and of course the "Book of Vile Darkness."

Anyone notice that we name-checked Anthraxus in Dungeon last year? It didn't seem to generate many letters or online commentary, unfortunately (although admittedly it was more of an aside).

Basically, I think I do my best work as editor when I publish material that I find interesting as a gamer and a fan of D&D first, and as the editor-in-chief of Dragon or Dungeon second. I've been fairly well obsessed with the fiends of the "Great Wheel" cosmology since I was a little kid (as anyone who's read "Armies of the Abyss" could probably tell), so these articles are really fun to solicit, read, and publish.

Here's hoping for a whole bunch more of them.

Hey, Alzrius, are you aware of the "Flame Amulet of Alzrius," one of a few items in an article called "Gifts from Below," published in Polyhedron (maybe 136 or so)? Might be worth checking out. I wrote the article about a year before becoming the editor of Poly with (I think) 137. It was my first magazine piece with TSR, and was in the "new" issue about the time I started at WotC.

I'd forgotten about it until just now.

Incidentally, "Gifts from Below" was originally submitted to Dragon, who rejected it. The rejection letter contained five typos.

Nobody's perfect.
