It's not just drawbacks.
In terms of NPC age... Chalk me up as the 30th for "make it up as you go along". Is it knowing his precise age relevant to the encounter? Maybe you could just describe him as a "Powerfully built man well past his prime; his raven black hair now streaked with grey."
everyone does what they want... I just gave a reasonable way of determining age, rather than using WAG. I was looking to see if anyone else had thoughts along this line.
relevant to the encounter... not really...but to the over all character building, if he has become frail over time, his magic items (the ones he held on to) might or should reflect this. or they might have other things (creatures, effects, items etc) that make it easier for him to funtion... perhaps he is busy with lich research etc...this is why i use age.. and always have, I have had many a character die from being aged by one creature or another, even had one go Lich...back in the day when I ran evils... I no longer allow evil party members unless NPC... took the living greyhawk view on that...makes sense. solves and eliminates all sorts of typical problems that arose in past years... tournament play is another story... won many a tournement as a CE...
oooo Gen con's past.... memories...olol
