Ahsoka - SPOILERS

Well, (a) WW2 was 80 years ago, not 19 years ago like the Clone Wars were, so people would literally remember them and seen them on TV and talked about them; and (b) you don't have to remember their individual names to know that Nazi generals existed. Curious why you chose Russian specifically, as Himmler, Goebbels, etc. are pretty well known, and you named Rommel yourself; casually ignoring the category of 'people you've heard of' certainly helps to establish a narrative that somebody hasn't heard of anybody.

You’re missing my point.

You can’t name these generals because we had the Cold War. These generals and their contributions have been erased from our histories.

Just like the Empire erased the Jedi.

I mean, Han Solo was, what, in his mid 30s? He'd remember them being around 19 years ago. As would everybody else older than, say, age 10. I definitely remember things that happened 19 years ago. Some of them I wish I didn't, but hey.

That’s the point. He doesn’t. No one does.

We do because that’s all we see of the setting - Jedi stories. But the vast majority? Never seen one. Stuff that happened on another planet a long way away.

And then a couple of decades of authoritarian regime to erase the history.

It’s not like there isn’t precedent. And even if you don’t like it, this is how the setting is presented.

Look at Andor. How much do they talk about Jedi?

“Hokey religions” and all that.

No, no. You’re missing my point.

It’s 1964, not 2023. Most people literally remember them. The Empire is powerful but I don’t recall it having mass mind-wiping capabilities. The government can’t erase my memory of Star Wars, which came out a lot longer than 19 years ago.

It’s like me forgetting major figures from 2002. Not gonna happen.

Really? Name three taliban leaders from 2002. You were at war with them at the time. You should easily be able to name them.

Thing is, the Jedi were not major figures. Leia was the face of the rebellion, not Luke. And how many people actually knew Luke was a Jedi? It’s not it was advertised.

Sure people knew Jedi existed. Of course they did. But know the names and faces? Unlikely.

They haven't been totally forgotten but for the most part they're not that famous.

You also grew up in a not totalitarian regime which was encouraging you to forget or imprisonment if you don't.

People know about Jedi they don't know the Jedi and even when they were around they were super rare.

Ahsoka timeline is 27 years after order 66. Without looking it up can you recall the name of various generals in a mid 90s war eg Chechnya or former Yugoslavia.

Off the top of you head how much detail do you remember about thise wars or what goes on at Mt Athos monastery?

Monks at Mt Athos and those events in Balkans thise individuals are way more numerous comparatively than the Jedi.

Throw in generations of of myth a d legend and totalitarian government that sense the ISB around if you go digging....

Let’s also not forget fifteen or so years of military rule during the Clone Wars where Palpatine paints the Jedi as the problem. The war is the fault of the Jedi who are trying to overthrow the rightful government.

The Clone Wars series does touch on this repeatedly. The common people don’t love the Jedi. They’re terrified of them. There are all sorts of groups that actively hate them.

Heck if you’re living on a former Separatist world, the Jedi are the enemy.

So you’ve got a decade or so under the Republic of people being told Jedi are the enemy. The Empire becomes the Empire by saving you from those dangerous Jedi who were going to overthrow the rightful government and steal your children. Then you have nearly thirty years of nothing but negative media about the Jedi.

It’s not surprising that the Jedi are not very well known or understood.

The Clone Wars only lasted for three years.

Huh? Anakin is like ten when the clone wars start. He’s like twenty five or so by the end of Ep. 3.

Well ok fine. He’s like ten when the separatists are fighting. I was kinda putting the whole thing under one blanket.

What’s the war called before they start using clones?

When do you think the Clone Wars start? It’s not with the end of Phantom Menace. Its 10 years later during Attack of the Clones.
