I am not yet sure what I would want with Leadership, as they have already taken bets on how long the 1st Level player will last, so a bard is out.

Possibly for a Squire

Paladins are always a good choice. Though mounted combat is probably a wasted feat in this case, since I think almost the entire adventure will be indoors.

And I'd still go Fighter 4 / Paladin 8, but that's just me and the power-gamer within coming out.

I don't know if the +2 to damage from Weapon Specialization is worth losing out on 4 levels of paladin. You give up a smite evil and (more importantly) 3rd-level spells. With Wis 14 (easily 16 if he grabs a periapt of Wisdom +2), his spells per day is 2/2/2, but at 8th-level, he'd have only 2/1. 3rd-level paladin spells aren't amazing, but quite useful. On top of that, you can expect to get 4th-level paladin spells in two levels, which ARE amazing (at least holy sword is).

Wilphe, that build looks much more viable. I might suggest swapping out Cleave and Mounted Combat for feats that are more likely to come into play. Regarding Mounted Combat, it isn't worth it if you only have 5 ranks of Ride. You can easily get your mount's AC higher than you could possible roll with so few ranks. So I recommend Improved Critical for at least one of those choices. Other choices are viable as well. Shield Specialization, Iron Will and others would probably be better than Cleave.

You make some valid points. Weapon Specialization is the gateway to many other strong combat feats, though. Which is why I consider it so important. Of course, since our sources are somewhat limited for this game, that does cut down Weapon Specialization's importance some.

Sorry, Ride is maxed at 15

Handle Animal is at 5 for the synergy bonus.

Basic background is that he is a lawyer, or sheriff, depending on how you look at it. Cohort and Followers would be the team he uses to assist in that.

Well if Cavalier is an option then mounted combat is going to figure at some point; as I believe Airwalkrr said earlier. I only put Mounted Combat in there so if it does take place he can do it, though by itself it is not that great.

At the moment I have him down as using +3 Greatsword and +5 FullPlate, but I might go for lighter armour, a reach weapon and take Combat Reflexes and Short Haft depending on what people think is going to be useful.

Other choices depend on the likely interaction between "Old school", "rat bastard" and "playing enemies and PCs sensibly". Because if it is at all likely that the group will get attacked in camp, or if there is any chance of getting lost and/or starving to death I might take his first level as ranger for:

Track
Favoured Enemy Humans
Awareness Skills + Survival

That is also where you start buying light armour to sleep in and I know to buy at least two of everything on the mundane equipment list just in case.

Currently items are:
+1 Darkwoord +6STR Comp Longbow
Cloak of Charisma +2
+3 Cold Iron Greatsword
Quiver of Elhonna
Hewards Handy Haversack
Wand of Shield
Wand of Vigor
Ring of Protection +1
Ring of Feather Fall
Hat of Disguise

7220 left.

Looking up Deities:

Allitur seems approprite?

At least having another good PC in the group means the only one I have to worry about accidentally smiting will be Varn.

Okay Wilphe it looks like you've started a good build. Go ahead and flesh everything else out and I'll go over it for final approval. It looks like we are getting close to the start. You'll also need to decide on details for your cohort. None of your followers will be coming with you into the dungeon, but you might be able to set them to task in between treks. I do have one important question though: Allitur? Really? God of ethics and propriety? Do you need to know the right way to hold your fork as you swing your sword at the ogres? Your character is a holy warrior. Paladins in the World of Greyhawk tend to follow gods like Heironeous, Mayaheine, Pholtus, and St. Cuthbert. Allitur is not exactly a martial deity. Most of his clerics would be cloistered clerics and you would probably be the only paladin of Allitur in the world. On top of that, you won't have the support of any major church nearby. Maure Castle is roughly a week's travel from the City of Greyhawk and you will likely use this large central city as a base of operations as well as a place to find a market for loot. As a paladin it would greatly behoove you to be a member of one of the major churches that sponsors such holy warriors. Temples in Greyhawk.

I know I've asked this before but now that we have a practically full group, would you all like to roleplay out the beginning of your quest and how you come to learn of Maure Castle? Or would you prefer we start at the entrance to the dungeon with a synopsis of how you got there?

Well, in part I am going by the description of Allitur here:

Allitur - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Clerics of Allitur act as judges and arbiters in disputes, as messengers, as legal advisers, and as scribes. They're enactors of punishment for criminals, oathbreakers, and violators of taboos, so they have a martial aspect as well.

Their roles often carry them far into hostile lands.

Heironeous I do not find especially attractive, and Mayahiene is under him.

St Cuthbert has that whole "You have discarded a bubblegum wrapper in the sacred precincts, the penalty for which is death. I will hound you to the ends of the earth" vibe about him

Pholtus's attributes include being inflexible and "law without necessarily mercy"

Other ones out there I looked at are:

Al'akbar

Lendor

Both of whom would be even more weird...

Is the option to not have a patron deity availible?
