Amazon.com question...

I ordered something from Amazon last week, around Thursday or Friday, and I received it yesterday with Free Super Saver Shipping.

Sometimes it takes longer though. They've always been very clear with me that Free Shipping may take longer. Obviously, sometimes it doesn't. I've noticed on preorders of heavily hyped items (like the last two Harry Potter novels), I've received them on the release day, despite using free shipping.

Anyway, back to Amazon.com, while they are still technically offering "free" shipping, it's still pretty weasally delaying it by a week. And they should make it clear right on the ordering page that the shipment will be delayed, not having to click on shipping policies, then on the fine print for free super saver shipping.
FYI, at least on a sample of products I just looked at, the policy is directly linked from the eligible product page: the "Details" link that follows the Super Saving Shipping reference on the Price line.

I've just canceled my order for the Dragon Compendium from Amazon. I ordered it way back in August and have gotten everything else, including "Road of the Patriarch" but not that book... Went and ordered it off Ebay.

Damn you grammer nazis. What is it with people on gaming message boards. They have to correct your grammer and your spelling.

I started using amazon regularly again this year after a couple of bad experiences a few years back (we use it at work and the problems I had I noticed seemed to have been fixed). I've only noticed a delay with super saver free shipping when it's a pre-order or a relatively new item. I've received other things with super saver shipping that have been around for awhile within a day or two of ordering.

I've never really had a problem with it, and I order a lot off of Amazon. I am sure I have had some packages take a long time, but I guess I always figure since I am getting it shipped for free, who cares. Plus, doesn't it say it could take 2 weeks or something ridiculous like that?

I'm a big Amazon fan myself--never had any problems big problems. I think once or twice I ordered something they claimed to have in stock, and they ended up not having it. After a 2-3 months of getting messages that hte product was 'delayed' the order was cancelled. However, this crap only happened to me a couple of times and I've ordered hundreds of products via them.

Considering you get a very good selection of gaming stuff for a mass-market online vendor, almost always at a great discount with free shipping as an option, some delays should be expected.

I've had this problem myself. There is only one solution: complain.

Their super saver shipping option is really: "we reserve the right to be slow and not give you your stuff" but it doesn't say that on the page. It's deceptively (or incorrectly) labeled as being a shipping related issue instead of an "we want to give the book to someone who will pay us extra money (cause it costs less to ship than we charge)."

Just complain (using the online complaint form), then their sales staff has to respond, then you give it another day and complain again (using the same complaint ID numbers).

By the second or the third time their responce staff have to follow through on their promises and actually get stuff sent and they do.

But you must be proactive. Don't wait for it. Put in your order, give it a day and start hitting the complain button.

And BE POLITE.
