Amazon takes over Bond franchise

I believe someone mentioned his tweet up-thread.

If Bezos was going on fan response, he's already on the phone with Henry Cavill. People say he's too old, but he's only 41 - just three years older than Craig was when Casino Royale came out. Of course Any new Bond film (or show) is at least two years away, so he'd be 43-44. But Brosnan was 42 in Goldeneye, Moore was 45 in Live and Let Die - and neither seemed too old, at least for the first few films.

The only time that I think the Bond actor seemed too old were the last couple movies of Roger Moore when he was in his mid-to-late 50s, or Sean Connery in that last odd duck he made in the 80s, when he was in his 50s. Plus, Cavill seems like a health nut and is aging well, so probably has a solid decade plus in which he'd be fine for the role. If they started making a film in 2026 and did one every three years, he could be 43, 46, 49, and 52 - four films is about right for any one actor. And of course they might go the series route instead, which gives us a lot more screen time to enjoy.

That said, I'm not attached to Cavill - I just think he has the right combination of factors to make a good Bond. And I'd rather have 10 years of Cavill than, say, 15 years of a lesser actor.

Only thing I ever remember seeing him in is his role as Superman. So I really don't have an opinion.

That odd duck would be "Never Say Never Again". Just my opinion but a lot of actors from the 60s, 70s and 80s looked a lot older on film than they really were. Even when I saw one of Sean Connery's earlier Bond films, I thought he looked kind of old.

He did an excellent job playing a CIA dude in one of the Mission Impossible films. People loved him in the Witcher. Etc.

Yep - agree on all accounts. Cavill looks younger at 41 than Connery did at 32 in his first Bond role.

Anyone who follows Jeff Bezos on Instagram needs to have their phone taken away from them.
Ha. Seriously though, this might be an odd thought to some, but some folks follow people on social media they don't like or don't agree with, just to hear what they have to say. I follow people on twitter that I disagree with politically, because I like to consider a wide range of views - and hear it from them, rather than opposing pundits who inevitably distort to serve their agenda. Of course I wouldn't take anything Bezos says on social media at face value, but I still think there's value in hearing his words first hand, rather than filtered through pundits.

Think it has to do with a few things. Film, photo and lighting quality is probably light years better now than then. A lot of actors back then certainly drank and smoked most likely more than nowadays. Hell, the Flintstones did ads for Winston cigarettes. I'm sure there are others that don't immediately come to mind.
