Ampersand to reveal mystery of the disappearing books (apparently)

*sigh*...just *sigh*

The compilations thing bothers me. Stop being lazy...

re: board games? Really? That's supposed to replace a game of D&D for me? Man alive, I like board games as much as the next guy, but like video games, there's set limits and boundaries that we're stuck to...not in D&D. Board Games are not RPG's, even if they have RPG elements...

Yeah. Now I will either have to learn to do it myself, or start a series of monthly subfolders in my Dragon and Dungeon folders, which is messy and sloppy, but easier.

If it was about the cover art, I could live without it! Heck, they could recycle old covers!!!

The worst part is that they will update the articles and not bother to tell you, so you'll basically have to go back and check to make sure none were updated after a few weeks to months.

I don't think there was "a few" of us. I think there is a lot of us.
Indeed. I count myself among that number. Sure, I'd read them as they came out, but then also download the compilations at the end of each month. I was even in the process of going back and grabbing all the art releases and merging those into my archive.

You don't need to archive these. You have full access to the PDFs as long as you subscribe. Since you don't need to archive things, there's no need to bother you with updates: when you want to go back to an article, just log back in and you'll get the up-to-the-minute content, just as you will in the character builder and compendium.

Remember, WotC is a business and they need your ongoing subscription to keep the hobby alive.

Wow, and here I am still contemplating re-subbing to DDI, but at every turn, they give me less and less reason to do so.

No more magazines? Articles that don't have deadlines (because they have to be "proofed")? A still buggy and not-up-to-date character builder? No monster builder? Wow...

Yes, actually, I do. I can more easily find things on my PC than on their website. If they decide that it just isn't working out and that they're taking it all offline, I will still have a copy. Besides, by not re-downloading it every time I want to view it, I am saving them money in reduced server overhead.

Besides, if I am gaming/doing DM stuff somewhere without internet access, I can hardly just log in and pull up the "up to the minute" info, can I?

This has nothing whatsoever to do with my continued support, or not, of their product via subscription.

Unless you don't have fast internet all the time, or want to read the PDF's while on a subway, etc. Or don't want to have to download them all the time. Or you're at work and your company blocks WotC site (Games) or watches/restricts your downloads. There's tons and tons of situations where having the PDF compilation is far better (just like the offline CB BTW, but I shouldn't resurrect that one...)

The Class Compendium
Seems like there were quite a few people looking forward to this on this forum, but from my understanding this was basically a reprint of existing classes + errata. The completist in me wants that, sure, but my practically speaking its not something most of us need.

I was really interested in this one, and hopeful for follow-ons in fact, because I want most of the PH1-3 (and FRCS and ECS) classes to stay in print.

Mordenkainen's Magnificent Emporium
So despite the cool name, my understanding is that this was basically going to be Adventurer's Vault 3. I never found the first two that interesting, personally, and I've heard they weren't big sellers.

True, but there just aren't a lot of magic items in the Heroes books or the DM's Kit, and magic items that weren't updated in one of those basically got dumped into uncommon rarity. So there's a pretty tiny selection of magic items that are in sync with the new item rarity system right now.

To be frank, I'd sooner have a book that added new builds and options for things that genuinely needed it. The Artificer, Seeker and Runepriest are desperate for support. A book that gives them options would be far better than yet another god damn reprint of the fighter, rogue and whatever. They have enough support that they are the best classes in 4E. Just give them a rest already.

So I can't say I am that upset by the book being canceled, merely the manner that it has happened and the fact the release schedule looks really barren without them.
