And on the 3rd Saving Throw fail ....

Okay our Cleric just got turned to stone.

We sort of missed the beat on this one.

He has hit and slowed I think, failed the save next round and became imobolised.

As was attacked by an elemental creature that jumped into statues and attacked us.

The next save we deduced, well the DM gave it away, he would be turned to stone.

So we have someone give him a ST, but.....

We thought this would be an additional one, but it turned out he failed it and the DM activated the Petrification as he has "failed the 2nd ST".

If we knew we could have aided his save, if you can do that, when it came round to his turn.

Is this right, or should it be the 2 saving throws in consequetive rounds ?

Additional granted ones dont count.

How would a Warden have fared with this, as he gets to make a save at the start and end of his round.

Extra saves don't count against the limit on that sort of thing. This was clarified in (I think) PHB2. Only your normal "end of turn" saving throws count toward effects that occur on consecutive failures.

Saving throws granted by abilities don't count for effects that happen when you fail a saving throw. Page 98 of the Rules Compendium.

I think this is the passage you're looking for, PHB 2, pg 219, talking about effects on failed saves:

"The effect doesn’t change if the creature fails a saving throw against it at a time other than the end of its turn."

So no, granted saves or the Warden's bonus save doesn't make a condition worse.
