The press release specifically says it is compatible with D&D. You can't do that unless you're using the D20 logo. OGL-only products can't do that, either on the product or in their marketing materials.

I think that it would be better that the product came out under the OGL instead of D20. Those that are in the know will get it, those that avoid such things will not have the dirrect connection.

If they came out as simply OGL-Only rules, they'd probably have to include character generation rules. Judging by the potential content, such a process could begin long before conception and take several sessions...

Hehehehehe

They don't have to come out with Char-gen rules, The could, (Oh wait, Eric's Grandmother has seen the evil glint in my eye and has started...)

(You know, I can't even make a joke about Malevolent behavior with out it sounding like a dirty joke. Man, the topic is tough to talk about here.)

My appologies to Eric and his Grandmother. I now return you to this very confusing and somewhat controversial topic.

Except neither the OGL nor the d20STL cover press releases, only the product themselves and advertising for the product.;)
Except that a press release - *especially* one worded as that one was (like an "ad copy") - is in fact a form of advertising... and therefore covered. ;)

Judging by the fact that other companies have been pretty careful with their Press Releases, I would suspect that the general opinion is that a PR is considered "advertising" and treated as such.

But it is. What you're telling the store owner is that your tastes should be catered too and that mine should be rejected or he's going to loose business. So no, you aren't stating it to me directly, but your intention of action is clear and undeniable.

Or IOW people have the right to free speach as long as they agree with you. Boycotting, telling stores your opinions are free speach. Telling people you have a problem with this book is the same thing as you saying you have a problem with people saying they have a problem with this book. Free speach is for everyone not jsut the people who agree with you. So go ahead everyone boycot and protest erotic rpg books, boxed cereal, acne medicine, and people who boycot. Its all free speach unless you disagree with em then its something that shouldn't be allowed.

Claiming to influence what is available on the market that others may enjoy is pandering one's own self-importance.

Indeed, stating that one will not entreat a store that sells this product is about as effective as me stating that I'll not shop in a store that doesn't carry it.

Telling store owners that they will lose your buisness if they carry D20 softporn books is perfectly justified and fine in my book. That isn't censorship or telling others what they can use at thier table. It's telling a shop owner than you are uncomfortable and unwilling to suport stores that sell material of a kind that you found offensive. If the retailer gets enough of those kinds of complaints that they find that losing that buisness overrides the benefits of selling such books they will not carry them. You will have to buy them somewhere else. That's exercising your right to let your views be heard. If you don't like it go and tell them you will not support them if they don't carry books about nekkid elfs and how to incorporate fetishes into a game. They will weigh the pros and cons of each viewpoint and do what they must to stay profitable.
