Since the UA generally isn't about balance they will not learn it from an UA. I also hope / expect that the people at WotC have some idea of what they are doing, esp. when it comes to balancing things, without having to ask their fans each and every time
Quite. UA is a taste test and a teaser trailer, it's not about design or balancing. WotC pay professional game designers for that. They don't always get it right, but it's better than listening to unpaid randos off the internet.

I had a lot of fun on the old WotC forums. Before they closed I spent more time there than here.
The designers were on there often enough as well. I remember when Star Wars Saga Edition was alive and kicking, you could get some very interesting convos there with said designers, learn a lot of reasoning etc behind design choices.

Shame it's all gone now :(

The old WotC forums weren’t that bad. Unless you mean Gleemax?

Anyway, the DDB forums aren’t too bad but they’re no EN World!
The only time I was on the D&D forums was during the D&D Next Playtest. I don't know if that was Gleemax or not, but it was really toxic during the playtest. Everyone got super divided on different things (damage on a miss and martial healing being the biggest), and if you disagreed with someone, they acted like you were literally Hitler. It was awful, and I almost stopped with the playtest until I found ENWorld.
