D&D 5E Anyone used the chase rules in the DMG yet?

They look pretty straightforward, but wondering about experiences/pitfalls(npi)/things to be aware of that may not seem obvious to my addled mind.

I've used them once. Never again.

There are three places the chase rules in the DMG break down....

First: The transition from combat into a chase (escape and evasion) is murky.

Second: There's nothing to stop a PC from making ranged attacks intended to drop the target. When PCs are chasing NPCs, in my experience 9 times out of 10 the PCs are gonna try to the fastest option to ending the chase...lethally, if necessary.

Third: They're just not interesting, and certainly don't support a cinematic feel full of close calls. Trying to create a chase scene evocative of Lord of the Rings or Willow or James Bond is just not going to happen with the DMG rules.

I've hacked my own, inspired by these: http://dndhackersguild.weebly.com/blog/fast-and-fun-chase-rules-for-dnd-5e

My version (in early form) is here: http://www.enworld.org/forum/showth...les-that-actually-do-what-they-re-supposed-to!

I found the Chase rules to be somewhat confusing and unsatisfying. I've tried them a couple of times and each time I had to reread the rules during the chase to get the finer points down and ultimately think I'd rather have done it some other way.
