Arca Terra, Chapter One:

Correus supplies you with your requests then watches closely, concern etched into his face, as your tend to the half-elf. She stirs lightly under your touch and opens her eyes ffor a brief moment, then relaxes into a more comfortable sleep.

Correus speaks: "I think you have done much to ease her suffering, Reedson, and I thank you for it. I think she will likely remain asleep for some hours, exhausted from her journey from Fairie. Come, sit at the table with me again."

He pours more wine for you both before continuing.
"Lady Pandran is a noble of some standing in Fairie, and she commands much respect there. It frustrates her to be of such low standing in this place. Perhaps that is why she teases and plays with us all, for entertainment. Nevertheless, she foretold your coming to our fold, and bade me grant you this token of her gratitude, and, no doubt, to bind you closer to herself."

He produces from a pouch a tooled leather strap, set with a blue gem in the middle. The gem is carved with the familiar "wave" sign of Avandra, and it glows with a faint blue light. You recognise from the radiant power it emmanates that this must be a magical Holy Symbol, a focus for your faith-magic. Correus offers it to you, speaking as he does so:
"It can be worn as either a necklace or headband, and I am told it will function equally well whichever way it is worn, should you accept it. I should warn you: it is likely enchanted to provide information of your whereabouts and possibly even your thoughts to Lady Pandran. She means no harm, but she is nosey. I think it unlikely that such a mundane piece of apparatus as this would have mind-reading enchantments upon it, but the Lady has surprised me before. Please, I hope you will take it in the spirit in which it is given: With good faith, but, perhaps, caution." He smiles knowingly with these last words.

OOC: The Avandra sigil in the PHB basically looks like this:

only they're all much closer together. It's a little bit like this too:

OOC:Oh right, as for the monkey, I'm not sure how you want to do that. I suppose he could just rap at the window here or something but I can't really picture a halfling hiding a monkey in his sleeve.

Corrin nods, slowly at first, and then more confidently. "I just regret that she could not give it me herself. I will take it. It's a gift after all. Hopefully she will not find my thoughts offensive. She is a truly beautiful lady, and I cannot help but think so." He holds out his two small hands to take the symbol then, after admiring it for a moment, puts it around his neck.

"I am sure she will not mind, Corrin."

OOC: BTW, forgot to tell you what a Holy Symbol does!

Avandra's Charm
[sblock]
Level 1 Magic Holy Symbol
Implement (Holy Symbol)
Enhancement: +1 to attack rolls and damage rolls.
Critical: +1d6.

(basically adds +1 to hit and damage for all your powers and your basic attack, and when you get a critical, you roll an extra d6)[/sblock]

Suddenly the trapdoor in the ceiling swings open and Dashiel and Sul-Mahat drop through the opening. Dashiel throws an angry glare at you, then turns his attention to his older brother.

"Wattock talked. We have the location of the first implement!"
Correus leaps to his feet with excitement. "Go on!" he commands.
"He believes it to be in the possession of King of Rats."
"That makes sense. If anyone was capable of such an audacious heist, it would surely be King of Rats."
"That's right. Wattock says King of Rats discovered the hiding place of the artifact and stole it just to prove he could. Wattock and his comrade were supposed to be gathering information on the thief's whereabouts when they happened across Sul."
The two brothers share a wicked grin, the Correus turns to you to explain:
"We know where King of Rats has his lair, we've been trying to contact him for months, as he is obviously suprassingly knowledgable about valuable artifacts coming and going from the city. Perhaps you lady, holy Avandra, smiles on us some more today, Corrin?"

As a local man, Corrin has heard tales of the mysterious figure called King of Rats. Like most people, he has always assumed the character was a work of fiction. To hear these two talking of him as though he were real is somewhat jarring...

Corrin's now familiar eyebrow raise is the only response at first. "The King of Rats? What tale have I stepped into? A quest to reunite ancient scattered artifacts, faerie princesses and now the King of Rats..." He turns to the others expectantly for some further explanation, despite his words, his tone is more amused and curious than upset.

Dashiel raises his own eyebrow in crude imitation of you. When he speaks, he shows none of the charm or cunning of his brother, though he obviously imagines he possesses both in abundance.

He snorts a chuckle: "Ha! Says the halfling! To the kobold! I wonder if you've already met the ghost?" He jerks his thumb over his shoulder at the curtain. "If you've not had your imagination stretched enough already today, perhaps you'd like to come with me on an assignment? We'll quickly see if you're going to be of any use to us..."
Correus nods in agreement. "Yes, I think this is a perfect opportunity to allow our new comrade to stretch his wings a little. What say Corrin and Dashiel go to visit our friend, King of Rats? Perhaps you can pick up Thalak on the way. That bloody fey has been somewhat reclusive of late. I think he needs a distraction. Well, what do you think, men? A little bit of bracing country air?"

Dashiel regards you warily, but doesn't want to appear cowardly in front of his big brother. Eventually, he says "Sounds grand" with a wicked smile aimed at you.

Corrin narrows his eyes at Dashiel, he thought he might not like him before, and now he was certain. Still, since Correus seems to think it was a good idea he shrugs. "Aye, let's see how many more things today can confuse me... How exactly are we going to get his help though? Something tells me diplomacy may not be completely effective." He glares again at Dashiel.

"Ahh, perhaps I have not been completely forthright with you. Again. Thalak is an ally of ours, and I think he will not mind helping us. You'll find him on the far shore, slumming it as is his wont among the fishermen and eel-hunters. Once you two have picked him up, you can proceed to the lair of King of Rats, which we believe is somewhere in the hills outside the city, northwards. Dashiel has the map. If you need some provisions, rations, lanterns, rope, etc. Sul can get you some from upstairs."

OOC: I'll provide you with a map as soon as I get one drawn up. I'm trying to get Illustrator to work, and once I do I'll send you all the important stuff, maybe even prepare a little primer on the setting for the PCs. Thalak is a character that's going to be played by WarlockLord. Shortly after that another PC is going to be introduced, played by Braydz, but I'll keep his character a secret for now. With so many more players the posting speed will unfortunately drop off (unavoidable, but it was my fault to begin with :/ ) but I really like everyone's characters and I think there'll be some great opportunities for roleplaying between you all.

OOC: ENWorld 2 seems even less stable than the original. I repeated erases my entire posts when I press the submit button by claiming it's timed out and I can't even press back to recover it anymore for some reason! ARHG!

"Provisions? Just how long will this journey be?"

OOC: Man, tell me about it! I just write in wordpad now and copy and paste :/ Sorry, I misunderstood your question before, I think.

"Oh, I see your meaning, you want to know how we're to secure King of Rats' aid? Well, you're right, diplomacy will likely prove ineffectual, but he is a thief, and thieves are not known for rejecting generous amounts of gold and treasure. Dashiel will command the purse strings, he knows what we can spare. Truly, I will consider the mission a success if you find his lair at all. But I have faith in you, paladin, and you in turn have faith in the god of luck, so I'd say that's pretty good odds! Now about the provisions, well, I expect you to reach the hills before nightfall, but it's not advisable to travel at night through the jungles, not with tigers and the like about, so I imagine you'll want to make camp in the hills for the night. With three of you there should be no problem posting guard and what-not, eh?"
