Archery is better than swordsmanship?

Hmm... Antimagic field... Does a regular sword suffice to destroy a magical weapon inside an Antimagic field?

Anyways, Sunder is just silly (IMHO, of course).

Unless I am mistaken, a weak character can still use mighty composite bows, they just won't get the bow's strength bonus of course. Look at it as not pulling the arrow back all the way?

From the PhB pg 119 under Strength Bonus:
"If you have a Strength penalty (not a bonus), apply it to damage you deal with bows and slings."

From PhB pg 113 under Mighty Bows:
"The mighty bow allows you to add your Strength bonus up to the maximum bonus listed."

There is also an example that talks about Tordek using a mighty bow (+3) and that he only gets +2 to damage because his strength isn't high enough to grant him the full benefit of the +3 bow...

So it all depends on what you meant by "weak"...

Melee fighter unable to match the damage of an archer, PLEASE

all I have to say is Samurai 6/Iaijutsu Master 6/Singh rager 4

For more on this combo that can dishout around ~2000 between just the suprise round and 1st round action check the sultan's of smack

Azger, I think it was errata'd so those with lesser strength bonuses could use them and benefit to up to that bonus (referring to mighty composite bows)

As for high damage, there will always be optimal combinations for all types of fighter types, although each usually has its own specialties.

That's what I was saying... but my point was that if by weak you mean having less than a 10 strength, then they won't be doing much damage with the bow since the str penalty applies to the damage.

If you have a +1 str bonus then you might as well buy the mighty bow +4 so that you can benefit from it if your strength ever went up.

Agreed on the epic, provided you finish one out to 10th level. Good point.

So, Rackhir, how many times do you think we'll have to post these melee vs. archery items? ;)

I would have to say a bajillion times

:D

At least it's not about sneak attack, or monks being overpowered.

IMHO, a point made about melee damage using OA rules is more of a comment about OA than about melee.
