More importantly, does this work in reverse? If I have a Maul of Halfling Squashing, will its magic function against Kender.

That doesn’t mean they should count as gnomes for the purpose of feats and such.

I would not allow a kender in my game. I've seen it go bad a few times, not again.

That's fair. I've seen it go both ways, and in my personal experience the problem kender were played by people looking to create problems. I'm older and wiser now, so I can generally tell who is that sort of person before game play begins.
