I'm away from my PHB right now, but AFAICT, the 3E SRD doesn't mention that... where did you find that rule?

I can't find anything linking Specialization to Spell Focus...

Well, um....

*shuffles feet, and looks horribly embarrased*

Now that you mention it, I can't find it in my 3.0 PHB either.

I wonder where that idea come from? I know I've seen it somewhere...

I hate those rules! :)

"Sure, it's right here, under... hmm. Maybe I saw it in the section on... um. Well... 'cos I'm the DM, that's why!" :)

I disagree, I feel the divination line of spells is quite strong.

0th:Detect magic, Read magic
1st:Comprehend Languages, True Strike
2nd:Detect Thoughts, See Invisibility
3rd:Arcane Sight, Clairaudience/Clairvoyance
4th:Arcane Eye, Scrying
5th:Prying Eyes, Telepathic Bond
6th:True Seeing
7th:Greater Scrying, Greater Arcane Sight
8th:Greater Prying Eyes, Moment of Prescience

In a cash poor campaign, ConcreteBuddha's point is a strong one. My experience from 3.0 in a vanilla wealth level campaign is that it is not an issue.

I also find I am using more and more divinations -- they are now meat and potato spells for me. I would put Locate Object and Locate Creature to the list of good Divinations -- both are fabulously useful spells if you have info on the opposition.

No, because some people still design characters for reasons other than mix maxing...

Yes, of course, and it is for sure the best argument to specialize in another school than divination, or keep it general.

But that is not the point! ;)

The point is, that to me divination specilists are clearly in a superior position over any other specialists (unless acting under a heavily restricted environment, limited to the 2 free spells per level).

P.S. Yes, Ray of Enfeeblement seems hardly fair for a 1st level spell now! ;)

I dunno, an extra Divination spell per level, and having to spend extra gold on good spells OR an extra spell of any other school, while spending gold on nifty munchkin items. Seems pretty balanced to me. ;)

I'd rather have an extra teleport or an extra summon or an extra lightning bolt a day for the price of enchantment and necromancy myself than an extra scrying for the price of just necromancy.

You might have confused Spell Focus with Power Focus, which IIRC a psion has to take in his specialty before taking it for any other discipline.

I think you have solved my little conundrum sir! Thanks! And my apologies to everyone for spreading misinformation!
