Are Readied Actions Obvious?

Do you know what was frustrating? When I charged a gnoll, spirited charge, CRITICAL HIT! 5x normal damage! I rolled about 12 on my 5d6 and I'd not been smiting evil, and I've not got great strength, so my total bonus damage to be multiplied was +3 x5.

Quintuple damage and I only managed 27 damage. One of the fighters seemed to regularly get that on a normal blow!

Remember, Power Attack is your friend. At 2-1, it can add up very quickly on a Spirited Charge. Also, spells like Magic Weapon (and the Greater Version), Divine Favor, Bull's Strength and Eagle's Spendor (for the Smite Evil) can all add substantially to a paladin's mounted damage. But certainly Power Attack!

If you want to amp up your halfling paladin/wardog charge damage, go into Halfling Outrider (from Complete Warrior) for at least 3 levels (charge through friends and difficult terrain), have your mount take the "Fleet of Foot" feat from Complete warrior (can make up to a 90 degree turn while running or charging), and take the Shock Trooper feat (from Complete Warrior), using the Heedless Charge ability to Power Attack with your lance (wielded with two hands, naturally) and apply the penalty to your AC instead of attack roll - with Ride By Attack you will hopefully be well out of reach after you attack.

I play with a guy who has this build, and at 10th level he regularly does 100+ points of damage on a charge. It's pretty potent. (Wielding a lance with two hands is questionable to some, but the DM allows it.)

It's a two-handed weapon - as written, the 2-for-1 Power Attack damage will apply even when you're wielding it in one hand :)

For more halfling outrider fun, look to a Rgr4/Pal5/Beastmaster1/Halfling Outrider X, with Natural Bond and Devoted Tracker feats. The Halfling Outrider levels stack with paladin levels to determine Mount abilities, and with Ranger/Druid levels to determine animal companion abilities... and with Devoted Tracker, your companion is your mount and benefits from both sets of abilities.

From memory, you end up with an animal that has the abilities of a 15th level paladin's mount, and a 19th level druid's companion...
