Are Solo PbP Games Uncommon?

I've been looking at the Living Eberron pages, and I've been building some stats. Maybe I'll give that a try. The Tower Shard or whatever it is called seems like it would be a good place to practice PbP conversation at least, and would I be incorrent to assume that just because you have an approved character, doesn't mean you have to get up and start adventuring right away?
You need a DM to start adventuring, so yes, that would be correct. However, you're always welcome to stop in and try the conversation thing on for size.

I've played in a solo game (actualy I'm in another one as well). The first was a prequil to a game that just started reciently and went over 3000 posts, the other wasn't ment to be solo, but the other player droped, and no new players have realy show interest in joining.

I actualy find for the most part, smaller adventures more enjoyable, with 4-6 players and a judge. More than 6 is too many, less than 4 is too few. 4 is a fairly optimal number if you get a good post rate with all of them. It gives you time to be more intimate between the players, as well as give the GM some leway at including story for each of them.

What you could try (and which has worked in the past already)... just post a thread to recruit a DM for a solo game with you as a player (maybe include a character you would like to play).

It doesn't always have to be the one way around, and this way you won't have a player overload, since you are not recruiting for players, none will apply, obviously. ;)

Once you have created a character, even if it hasn't been approved, you can enter the tavern. You can roleplay as much as you want there. You can even join up an adventure, but can't gain XP until you have been approved. generally, it doesn't take much time to be approved. but nothing force you to jump on teh first adventure that show up, but at the same time, you don,t get any XP in the Tavern thread, and three adventure can show up in the same week and then you have to wait a whole month to see the next one.

The big advantage of a Living world is, if the game die, you chaarcter return to the Tavern and can continue to live. Another advanatge I have seen, it is more you raise in level, more you will be with higher level characters, and generally, player with high level characters are realable player. One of my character is playing is now on the 4th adevnture of a sequal, teh group have sligthly change in time, but we always have been minimum six, they are all nice roleplayer, and only one have quit in the middle of the sequal because of personnal matter, none have dissapear in teh mist without giving news.

Living ENWorld is pretty nice with that.

That's true, though I've seen this fail more than I've seen it succeed. It's certainly worth a try, though!

Well, are they?
Generally rare.

I suppose another logical extension of this is that it may be useful to try and DM a solo game, but I think it would be foolish to try with no real DMing experience, and no real PbP experience. If it were to happen, it would be Eberron.

That is all for me to say at the moment, until I see some of your thoughts on the matter.

If you volunteer to DM you will likely get plenty of potential players willing to play. I'd say go for it if you want to, DM experience or not. If you want some guidance use a premade module. Expeditious Retreat Press sells some one player modules as does 0one games.

You can offer to DM according to whatever specifications you are comfortable with.

I've often wondered why more solo games don't happen as well. If nothing else it seems like they have a huge advantage on other PbP games because there isn't any lag. Lots of PbP games require 4 or 5 people to add their opinion every time a major decision has to be made. Granted, this isn't a problem if every player has a good posting rate, but when it breaks down, the games can go very slow. In solo games, this problem obviously doesn't exist.

Ah, The Temptation...

I might consider trying to DM a solo PbP... the only problem is that I do not want to give people high expectations, and I would prefer to try the style of moulding the story for the character, not the character for the story. So, I have my doubts about how well the recruitment process would go.

Then present an open call for a solo game, asking for a short (50-100 words at most) description of character and interests.

Then just pick.

I'd DM or play in a solo game, but given that I'm already DMing a PbP, and playing in five, I don't want to overburden myself.
