Hey RC, sorry about the delay.

No worries. Thanks for the info.

:) Good news, eh?

Well, it moves 4e back into the "I'll look into it when I get a chance/feel like it" area, and out of the "Never, so long as I have breath in my body" area. So, that is good news. An SRD will certainly help me decide if there's anything in 4e worth buying new books for.

(If "we're making the game easier for the DM" turns out to mean "you can pay to use tools on our site", though, I'm back in the Never camp. )

Ha! I've the perfect 3.5E Grognard solution if there is going to be an srd.

You see, before I started buying all the supplement 3.5 books, I really kicked myself for not realizing that there was a 3.5 srd. But now I am intelligent and wise in the ways. Being happy with my 3.5 ruleset ... I can be even happier with a digital only 4E ruleset! No need to buy the core rulebooks, just download them for free online!

That way, I can have a legitimate look at the rules, even try them out, before I decide that I'm much happier with my 3.5! :D

And I've said it before and heard it before. Even if the release isn't until May 2008, I'll nerver go through all the material I have by then! I don't think I'll have even read all the material I want to read about 3.5 by then!

Oh, I can understand why some people will still be playing 3.5E:

"Nostalgia."

Harharharhar!

Sorry. As one of the oft-derided "grognards", I had to get that out of my system.

But seriously, as the saying goes they're not going to come take your books away. If you really like 3.5E that much, as long as you've got your books/SRD/whatever, you can keep playin' till the cows come home.
Assuming you can find 3.x players. This is a problem for me even now. I predict it will only get worse.

I am not sure if I'll have the money to buy the books or the time to fix the rules they didn't do right (for me) yet again. It's a toss up still.

Perhaps. But as hard as it is to find a good game in some places, one thing is true. Anyone wanting to play a game badly enough will be willing to learn the rules. If your game is that good, people will learn the rules.

The only downside is that 3.5 material will become increasingly harder to find. So, gamers new to the hobby will have to settle for buying used copies of the rules on ebay instead of that nice new shiney XE PHB.

But rest assured. If your game is that good, you can get players to learn your rules. Heck, I'd even be willing to go back to 2e (which I've never played) if it meant being involved in an awesome game with sweet RPing.
