Are you looking forward to Magic of Incarnum?

I am intrigued by the basic idea. Part of the problem, though, is that I hear about an interesting idea from a particular book or company ( just the basic concept mind you, no rules or anything like that) and so often I'm disappointed about how it works in practice. Some of the feats presented in the preview looked OK, but the "You gain 1 point of essentia" gave me Magic:the Gathering flashbacks.

And that is a bad thing? ;) Seriously, the new preview actually made me feel like buying the book. The way the totemist works looks interesting (magical beast attributes instead of animal forms like the druid) and I'm all for new magic mechanics. Sure, it gives you more rules to master (which to some may be a bad thing), but I liked the new things they tried with the warlock in Complete Arcane and they seem to be doing something similar with the totemist. Let's get some innovation, people! :)

The preview seemed kinda sorts interesting, but that excerpt now move the book firmly into the Interested slot for me. The totemisit especially, I'm personally very fond of melee centered characters with funky abilities.

I was intrigued, and the totemist excerpts made me very interested. I think this could fit in well into my kind of game - the antithesis of Tolkienesque fantasy.

I am quite interested, though I do have to wonder why a lammasu "totem" would grant a breath weapon... ;)

Odd thought of the day: What if the alienist were turned into an Incarnum core class along the line of the totemist (less combatative, though), with soulmelds based on aberrations and oozes? Good idea, bad idea?

The new interview makes me feel a little better about the whole thing. It sounds like there will be incarna "spells," though they're more of a fixed effect type than a fireball. Still, it's going to be a tough sell...

Dear sir,

I am interested in your ideas and would like to subscribe to your newsletter. ;)

This product now appeals to me less and less with every preview and interview they put out. The concept and mechanics are certainly interesting, but I was hoping for something that could be altered to represent an original d20 mechanic for ki use. This is not at all what I was hoping for. I may or may not get it depending on flipping through it in the store now. I am so iffy on the book now that knowing if it is open content or not may be a deciding factor for me. I normally don't care, but if I can use some aspect of the mechanics to create my own ki-using system, then I might get it. Otherwise, I am 50/50 where I was 95% for getting it before the previews.
