Are you sick and tired of quoted movies during your D&D sessions?

I'm not. Quoting loved gamer movies (often in context) is part of the joy of gaming AFAIAC.

Punsters get the boot, though.

Some are quite specific, though. The first time I watched "The Gamers", the spanish captioning was on and I could not find the remote to turn it off. So every time the party goes "The Shadow? The Shadow! The Shadow.", I am seeing "La Sombre? La Sombre! La Sombre."

Well, it turns out that lots of gamers use "La Sombre" as the name for shadowy mysterious things when they don't want to come out and call it the shadow (including an item in The Game Mechanics' artifact book.) So when somebody relates something like "La Sombre" in their werewolf game, I'm like "La Sombre? La Sombre! La Sombre."

Is that your sole point of contention? Or is there any other type of Kedding around or Sabotage that makes it a shoe-in to get ousted? :)

"I cast Magic Missile" and "I attack the darkness" each get quoted at least once per game session guaranteed. Which is funny, because in my current campaign, no PC has the ability to actually cast Magic Missile. It just gets said anyway.

"Game over, Man" from Aliens is another frequent quote at our table, usually when the wounded and depleted party turns the corner to find itself facing yet another dozen or so bad guys.

Strangely, alot of Cartoon Network shows get quoted at our table at weird times, especially Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law, Sealab 2040 and AuqaTeen Hunger Force. And for some odd reason, headline quotes from "The Onion" get quoted alot.

Hmmm, maybe my players need to focus on the game more. . .

PS - Monty Python and the Holy Grail was ruined for me loooooong before I actually saw the movie due to the rampant overquoting of its funny parts (mostly by gamers, but not exclusively). By the time I actually watched the movie, I felt like I already had...if you know what I mean.

Our group doesn't have a problem with it, at least I don't think so. Thinks will be quoted, jokes and puns made, but since we all have a similar idea of what "too much" is and so forth it never really gets annoying.

You know, as I was reading this thread I just kept thinking about Igor, from Dork Tower, saying, "HUZZAH!!"

We have a policy that excessive movie quoting (or any out-of-game comments) necessitates throwing a dime or so into the Piggy Bank, to be used eventually to pay for soda. Remembering this cuts down on the disruption immensely.

Puns are $.05, unless they're really good, which gets you a refund. And war stories about old characters from other campaigns costs you $.25. :D

No no no.
I'm talking about movies that have been ruined for me (or you) because of the incessant quoting during gaming sessions. Braking the monotony is one thing, but quoting the same line from a movie every single time you perform a certain action in the game...Argh!

Then yes, yes, yes, the Holy Grail has been ruined for me. Not just by gamers, but by ALL the geeks that have ever quoted it. I think there's something about that movie that makes it especially obnoxious when it's repeated.

I guess it could be worse...
They could be overquoting the Dungeons & Dragons movie. :\
"Snaiillllssss!"
What are you talking about? Dungeons and Dragons movie? There's no Dungeons and Dragons movie.
No, Listen- There Is No Dungeons and Dragons Movie!

[AUTOHYPNOSIS]
There Is No Dungeons and Dragons Movie...
There Is No Dungeons and Dragons Movie...
There Is No Dungeons and Dragons Movie...
There Is No Dungeons and Dragons Movie...
There Is No Dungeons and Dragons Movie... ...*

The only time that quoting movies becomes a problem is when it gets in the way of the game. If your trying to play in a roleplaying heavy atmosphere, this happens very easily. If the game is more 'informal', its not a big deal. And that boils down to gaming preference. I generally cannot stand to play in games that consist of a DM trying to find an audience for amateur fiction.

My games dont get bogged down by movie quotes at all. But there have been several incidents of non PG dialog involving the rectal violations committed against a gnome. The comments are out of character, and add nothing directly to the game. But, they are also pretty damn funny, and no one at the table is offended.

As long as all the players at the table are having fun, then the game is being run well, regardless of how seriously the players take the game.

END COMMUNICATION
